Mattress Mod
Well, it only took me one night of sleeping in the 344, before I told Gary that the mattress wasn't gonna work.
So, last week he stopped at Camping World and brought home one of those 1.5 inch foam mattress pads. Ya know the kind that sorta looks like a paper egg carton. Well, we left it air out and to "fluff" up for almost a week, and it NEVER fluffed up like it was supposed to.
Back to Camping World it went.
Yesterday, we stopped in Wally World so I could see what I could run into with the "Mart Cart"
We had some copies of a few pictures made that we needed, and then ended up checking out their mattress pads. We decided on this one:
Walmart.com: Canopy Hypoallergenic 4" Memory Foam Mattress Topper: Furniture
While it was not really cheap, if it was any good the price would be well worth it.
We put it on the bed as soon as we got home, so that it had time to "expand". It was rolled into about the same size as the yucky one from Camping World, so I was very doubtful about it's comfort.
This evening (after my afternoon nap), Gary was out tinkering in Sunny, so I went out to "tinker" with my projects. Well, he was laying on the bed watching "TV". He told me the mattress topper was much better. SO, I decided to try it, holy cow what a difference it made. I was actually able to lay on my back and watch TV, which is something I normally can't do since my back surgery years ago.
This topper is "SO" comfortable, so I don't regret spending the $$$ for it. Plus it came with it's own removable cover.
So, now I think we will both end up getting a good nights' sleep. If it continues to feel so good, I might just have to get one for our house mattress.
Kitty

Hi Kitty,
Yes the better quality toppers are better. Cindy needs a fluff and and I need firm due to my lower back. We bought a 3" one from Healthy Foundations The Memory Foam Specialists - Memory Foam Mattresses, Memory Foam Topper Pads and Pillows. Anything you wanted to know about memory foam but was afraid to ask, that is the place to read.
They offer a 1 year return policy. And yes they do cost, we are very pleased and since 2003 it is still going strong. I'm sure the one at Wal-mart was less then we paid but still a good one is worth it. The cheap ones are just that , cheap.
Good to hear you can sleep well in the camper.
John

I can relate. We replaced the mattress in the Tweety, and the one out there is the most comfortable one we have.

We have two 2" ones that we just roll up and put in the shower when they are not in use that we cover the mattress with and we love them it really makes the stock mattresses comfortable our T1700 does not have a proper bed so they help a lot. I can say that cold they are as hard as a rock so the heat has to be on for awhile before they soften up. Usually I don't quit camping until I have to use 4 wheel drive to get where I'm going so probably they will be fine for most.

She's not kidding!
To make matters worse, she got one that was FULLY charged and fast!! I hated walking in front of her, for fear of heel trauma!
Kitty goes into some kind of transformation, when she gets behind the handle bars of one of those things.. Kinda like this:
She's even been known to compete and here's her latest competitor:
After we leave, there's always a trail of crime scene tape and evidence markers around... Luckily, they've never been able to catch her... She has a great getaway driver!
If you ever come to one of the local WallyWorlds to do some Wallydocking, keep an eye out for Kitty!

The mattress in the 311 was VERY comfortable, but we had to let it go with the 311, as it was too long to fit, since we now have the bedroom slide, the mattress out of the 311 would not have allowed the slide to go all the way in.
Bummer as that was a really comfortable mattress.

Now GARY,
You know that's just not right !!!! I'd never race that "thing" on the other mart cart, yuck !!!!!.
And I didn't do the damage in the parking lot, BECAUSE you always pick me up at the door, so I am NEVER in the parking lot.
Maybe you were jealous and went to Wally World without me and did some "Mart Cartin' without me ?"
Looks like you kind of "carnage"

We can also relate about the mattress. On our 2753 we added a 4 inch memory foam topper and it made a huge difference. When we got the 311, the mattress was so hard in it, we replaced it with a pillow top Kingsdown mattress. It is now just as comfortable as our home mattress.
So based on your comments about mattress size, is the mattress in the 344 a short queen?

Yep... The mattress in the 320/311 was a full queen, which is 60x80.. The one in the 344 is a short queen and 60x75..

The day we bought Sunny on March 23, 2006, we wen't from the dealership right to Sam's club in Hagerstown and bought our memory foam matteress topper. There was no way we were sleeping on a flat hard mattress. We have used the memory foam for years now at home, both the whole mattresses, and the 4 and 6 inch toppers. When we brought our new Sunline home, that is the first thing that went in.
We have one of those sleep number beds in our guest bedroom, an I even put a memory foam topper on that. They are that good!
