LED Tail lights ???

Can you buy a replacement to insert into your factory stock taillight receptical, that will give you LED taillights as well as Stop, etc. ?

Or do you have to install new light sockets on the back of your camper ?

Any info appeciated.

Thanks

They are available, but they arrange the LEDs radially from a center line, and given the narrow beam angle of LEDs, would probably end up way dimmer than the stock bulb. They probably work ok in the back feed automotive lights, but I think not in the side feed trailer lights.

It's better to just replace the entire tail light with an LED version.

arrowtrailer.net has a kit for $109. Maybe others have a better deal, Arrow is just near me.

Best,

Larry

Check superbrightleds.com They have a variety of 1157 LED bulbs which will fit in the existing socket of your TT's light fixtures.

But LED automotive lamps have different characteristics from conventional bulbs. Some have very narrow viewing angles, and some are highly directional. Pick with care.

The marker lights can be similarly replaced with LED's, but again, viewing angle issues with some of them.

I opted to add separate LED turn signal fixtures about 8" above the regular tail lights on the trailer. My wife followed me in her Jeep towing our boat up to the Adirondacks, and she was always calling me on the radio letting me know that she was hanging back more than normal because the LED's were so bright.

I tested my TT with just the LED's hooked up instead of the regular fixtures, and they flashed just fine. No real added load to the TV's system. It's when you replace the TV's turn signal bulbs with LED's that you run into load issues.
