LCD swinging mount arm

Right before I pulled out to go camping this weekend the FedEx man rolled up with my mounting arm for the LCD TV. As luck would have it, I had the tools to do the job while I camped.
$139 with free shipping from InnovativeEssentials.com 20lbs capacity and it came with all the screws and hardware. The direct link I had is dead now, sorry.

I started by removing the full length mirror that was mounted on the wall and then carefully peeled and scraped the contact paper and glue from the mirror backing off of the paneling. This was by far the most time consuming and tedious step of the project. It will get a coat of paint to cover the staples and puttied screw holes someday but the raw wood will settle for now.

After dry fitting my wall mount and arm with the LCD on it I found the proper position where the elbow fit into the corner and the TV would also extend and round the corner past the wall for viewing from the dinette. (A wonderful idea I found here on the sunline club forums) You can also see here where my wire runs out of the cabinet into the front input of my stereo. (it only has one input… on the front) I split the sound out of the DVD player and ran a set to the TV and a set to the stereo to use the overhead sound of the camper along with the speakers on the TV. This lets me jockey the sound around in case someone is resting in the back and wants quiet.

I also made sure I had the proper height so that my mounting screws hit the wood slab anchor I installed inside the cupboard above the stove. The anchor came from the woodpile of a resident camper and happened to be a cut off from the construction of the covered bridge near Paradise Stream Campground, that’s why I mounted it red side out… nostalgia someday.

Arm extended to the max while laying in the bed.

Arm collapsed for daytime position.

I’m in the process of building a triangular shelf just above the outlet for the DVD player. I’m also going to get some rubber grommets to protect where the wires pass through the drill holes and hang some cable conduit with the self-adhesive backing available at Office Max. The stuff works great for hiding large bundles of interior wiring and comes in 3’ sections. I’ll run a large section of it down the corner of the wall for the wires to/from the LCD and from the camper stereo. I’ll also use it in the cupboards to save the wires from bouncing/fraying against the items on the shelves.

This is a pic of the underside of my desk at home with an Ethernet cable run in the conduit I’ll use. It has a seam that unclicks to install wire from the side instead of the ends.

Wasn’t much time to hook everything up and I love the fact that the TV is now out of the way once camp is set. Thank you to all those who have posted their ‘how to’ here as a guideline for me getting my LCD mounting arm installed, much appreciated.

Thanks for looking.

Take care,
Jason
