Yup, I have heard the A/C units have a thick foam seal that goes on the roof. The new unit should come with a new seal, I would think.

This is what I've always used to seal the seams of aluminum roofs. My local dealer stocks it: DYCO PAINTS 20/20 QT WHITE DYCO SEAM SEAL WHITE QT: Amazon.com: Sports & Outdoors

The instructions clearly note a seal for the unit Jon, but I have not unpacked the top mounted piece yet. When my middle son Max and his wife and our year old grandson come over later today, I'd just like to get the unit up on the roof and in position while I have two strong young men here, then take Max out for a rid in the old classic speedboat. I think once I've cleaned all the sticky stuff off, and the heavy lifting is done, everything else will be relatively easy to do from the inside. I also think we can get the unit in position without get5ting on top of the trailer. I removed the vent just leaning over both sides from a step ladder. The AC top unit is still in my pickup bed waiting to pull alongside the trailer so the boys can heft it up.

Thanks for the link to the Dyco stuff.

Now all I need to figure out is how to fill around the new heater install so it looks good. Hmmmm.

Thanks all for the help, I sure do appreciate it!

Frank

Sounds like a fun day! What kind of boat do you have?

Thanks Jon. We have a 1962 fiberglass Power Cat 14T, an old tunnel hull speedboat with a 1963 Mercury 1000, and old 100 hp outboard. The boat weighs about 300#s, the motor something under that. I have adapted power trim and tilt to the motor as well as modern hydraulic steering. It has won every antique boat regatta it has been in too (all one of them...)

I found it on the front lawn of a rural residence, no motor or trailer, smashed in the starboard bow. I repaired and rebuilt the boat, once intended for short shaft motors, to a long shaft. I also combined two 1963 100 hp mercs to make one good one.

This past year I renovated the trailer I built for it with hydraulic brakes and new aluminum wheels. Our annual camping trip to Keuka Lake around the 3rd weekend in July is for the Antique & Classic Boat Society meet in Hammondsport there. The State Campground at the top of the lake is one of the nicest we've ever seen. We'll be hauling both the T-1550 and Power Cat over a week from tomorrow, and staying 10 days.

Forgot to add a few pics!

Also, I am in the process of combining two old 135 horse mercs for new power for my baby. The motor on it now is Merc's 1st generation of in-line 6 cylinder motors; the 1350, or 135 hp model is the 4th generation. Go faster...

That's a very nice boat! I really like the classic fiberglass boats, especially the late '50s Glastrons. They are certainly a labor of love, just like RVs, but no where near that of a wooden boat!

You need time & $ for wood boats. I've never had much of either. I had an aluminum boat when we were younger, then a succession of fiberglass boats up to a big Thompson cruiser.

When we left Massena NY (on the St. Lawrence River) and moved inland (southeastern VT) we sold the boat. Then we moved over to the western side of the Hudson River and Gail suggested we should get a boat again. I wanted a classic boat with classic power to be a water born counterpoint to my hot rod. Initially I wanted a Glaspar G-3, but came upon this old Power Cat, took some pics, and some guys on a site I go to (FiberGlassics® - fiberglassics.com) said "That looks like a Power Cat. If it is grab it!" That's how it started Jon. It is an incredibly smooth and fast boat in large part to the tunnel hull design that provides modest lift around 40-50 mph (you need to be exponentially more careful over 50). It's great at 25 or 30, pulls my kids around in tubes and is a lot of wet fun.

Many years ago I built a hot rod. That is a long story, suffice it to say other than buying a fiberglass body for it, I built or rebuilt everything one it, including the frame and most all the bracketry, the motor (406 c.i. small block chevy) and the Jaguar rear end. That, like our speedboat, is also a hoot.

I am about to get into wood boats in a modest way over the next year or so as I rebuild a 1947 Old Town canoe. I hope to start on that this weekend.

Got the AC on top tonight, pics later.

AC top unit on

With Max (on the left) and Gregg's help last night (our two oldest boys) we got the AC unit up on top of the trailer. That's all we did, internal assembly will be sometime between now and/or over the weekend.

Based on some great advice I got here, all we did was back the pickup next to the trailer with the AC in it and the boys lifted it up. I thought the info oin the unit said it was 90#s but the boys said it was maybe 50. I picked the unit up at the truck terminal Monday after work and never moved it, so all in all, pretty efficient!

I'll keep y'all posted as we move forward! Thanks again for all the great help!

Got the inside of the AC unit wired, just need a 50 cent part for attaching the wires on the other end to the circuit breaker, and will be ready to test later today. Hubba, hubba!

Top mount looks kinda weird, but it is tightened down around the 14" square hole per directions. Water test later today as well.

Thanks for all help!

I can hook it up without the 50 cent part and see if it works, but would rather just get the part, hook it up, test it, clean up and be done! Actually, the whole process was not difficult because Sunline already did the wiring run.

Gee, it gets hot out in the back country too?

I am excited though, no question about it!

Enjoy your day.

AC installed, finished, working!

Did good last couple nights. Tonight we got the AC in and finished, and man o man, does it ever work great. Got from 80 on the dinette table to 70 is like 10 minutes. It felt even cooler over on the lounge in the back. I can live with this!

Water heater is next. Got some couplers and PEX today that may work. Nothing I can do but try.

Here's some pics of the AC, and some new kitchen covers Gail got. You can just see one of the new blue curtains she's making. All the old brown stuff is coming out.
