Fridge Inside Upgrades

Hi Fellow Sunline Campers

Here are some simple fridge mod’s that we use each time we go camping. Most are adaptations to a store bought unit that did not work as well as we would of liked.

First the fridge door holder open device. I bought this thing a number of years ago and it never worked right holding the doors open. It always fell out. The instructions where sort of useless on the Dometic fridge we have in our newer Sunlines as the door spacing is wider then the holder.

DW suggested I put a piece of foam on it. H’mm, good idea So we did. It has worked flawless for the last 4 years now.

Here is the thing we bought at Camping World. The fridge they have it on the doors are closer, but not ours. http://www.campingworld.com/shopping...r-holder/28735

Next one is on the Camco Fridge fans we have. These actually work better, move more air, then the Valteraa ones. But they have a problem with the battery door. It keeps wanting to flop out. Then the fans stops as the batteries are not held in. So I have been using a rubber band. It worked, until the band snapped and went flying. So Velcro to the rescue. Now no problems. Works good.

Basically is it just a band of Velcro strap and I slide it on and off.

And the last one for now if the inside fridge temp sensor. We bought a cheapy indoor/out door remote temp sensor from Wal-Mart and put the remote one in the fridge. Now we can see the inside temp and not have to open up the door. The pic shows it still cooling down.

Sensor inside on the shelf

The display above the T stat.

These are little things, but do a good job as what they are made for. Hope this helps someone in the future.

John

That is what they are for. Just do not forget they are in the door when you go to move the camper.

I really like that idea of the remote temp gauge, thanks John

Phil.

Phil.
Kitty solved that issue with a bungee cord, connected to the range hood..

Alice, yes the door needs to be (must be) propted open to dry out after you shut the fridge down. You can go a day or so closed but when you start reaching 4 to 7 days, mold grows for real.... yuk

Once it is dried out, then it can be closed. But I leaver it open until the next trip to not get stale air inside.

I do the same thing with the shub shower screen. When we get home, I pull it open, then when we get ready to travel again, I retract it. We had the stink set in once, and after that, I pull it open to dry out after camping.

John

Thanks guys.
We haven't any snow here in NB, and when I visited Dad in Ottawa, they were having the same mild weather there.

It would be real nice if it kept up til we leave in January, but I think that is really pushing our luck.

Thanks John, the foam is a good idea, I will have to try that.

Our's "works" as-is, but is a little loose and prone to getting knocked around. I think some foam would make it about as good as it's going to get.
