Entertainment / Fireplace Mod, Coming SOON
Yes, I have plans to mod the bottom of the entertainment center with Garys' help. We have the fireplace insert, and yesterday we were in Lowes and picked out some nice shaded beige 1" ceramic tiles. The current plan is to remove the doors on the bottom of the entertainment center, remove the center support, then we will have to put in a piece of plywood with the proper size hole cut in it to fit the fireplace. We will then put the ceramic tiles around the fireplace on the new wood that we had to install, and then probably some type of decorative wood trim piece along the outer edge of the ceramic tile.
Here is the tile we purchased, BUT the photo does not show the true color, it is much nicer looking than the picture shows.

A fireplace! How exciting. Now you'll be able to go to Shenandoah River all winter and be cozy and warm

OK, the electric fireplace has been removed from the frame here in the house, and Garys' daughter & I went to where else but "LOWES" to get some oak to mod the entertainment cabinet in Sunny for the fireplace. Depending on how the woodwork mod turns out, we (I) might not have to do the glass tiles around the fireplace. But, that will be determined once the fireplace is in place and we see how things look/match.
The frame the fireplace was in will now get 2 shelves added to it and it will house the cable box and the dvd player, this will allow me to hide all the cords/cables that drive me nuts.
Will have to use power tools tomorrow "if" I'm feeling up to tackle the new shelves and brackets.
Won't mess with the fireplace/entertainment center mod until Gary gets home from work, as I"m not sure how he wants to do that.

I guess Kitty's mod has now become "Our" mod... I took the fireplace out to Sunny this evening. I then removed the lower doors and the necessary cabinet frame. As soon as I moved the fireplace near the opening, Kitty mentioned that she didn't think it would fit.... Oh SHE of little faith!! I wiggled it a bit and in it went!
The spacing between the fireplace and the sides of the frame is slightly smaller than 5 inches. Kitty bought some white oak and I'll stain it to match Sunny. To keep from drilling any new holes, I asked Kitty to find some polished brass, flush mount hinges. If she can find some with the same hole spacing, I can use them to secure the fireplace to the frame and not drill any new holes! I'm also putting the air intake vents in the new pieces of oak. Not in the sides of the entertainment center, like they were before.

No, there is only a light at the bottom... I just hope it looks as nice, as the one Chuck put in, even if it's not as big...
