Digital Thermo - did it - easy!

well i did it --- while getting ready to leave these minus temp in Ontario, i changed over the regular therm to a digital one --- it was an easy process and well the furnace works great --- the air conditioner fan hums low and high.

its currently frozen so didn't leave it on for more than a couple of sec to make sure that it could hear the difference between high an low to make sure it was wired correctly.

left the furance on last night -- as i had recaulked the shower --- and this morning the trailer was nice an warm --- no too hot or too cold.

seems to have been a good modification --- additionally, the temp reads the same on the digital therm as the smaller taple top thermo that we have - nice!

so, that being said - if you have not changed it over --- do so -- the directions on her are great!!!!!! thanks fo the help!

I confess that this conversion scared me a bit more than some jobs for some reason. Must have been the concern over getting all the wiring colors and functions properly matched up. Anyway, when I finally bit the bullet and jumped in, it was surprisingly easy, and like you, I found the results to be more than I expected. The temperature readout is easily read from a distance and is **accurate** beyond my expectations.

For the $21 plus NYS sales tax, I recommend it as an immediate mod rather than waiting for that darned DuoTherm to break! Well worth the money and the few minutes it takes to do the changeover.

I used the Hunter 42999B that is recommended in the instructions linked in a previous thread on this topic. That thermostat is a stock item at Wal-Mart, I believe.

yes i had to add a small switch to the thermostat - which i did to the side - very small switch to allow low and high fan speed - we seldom use the high speed, but just in case.

i used a honeywell digital thermo that i got for christmas.

quite like it - non programmable one - sorry can't remember the model of it --- and a small $2.00 switch i picked up from radio shack!

Tom, I haven't done the hi/lo mod yet. I was happy with the thing on low, and wanted to think more on how (or if) I will do the hi/lo switch. The instructions posted on the internet show drilling a hole in the shell of the thermostat and adding a little mini toggle switch to have hi/lo functionality. I don't mind doing that once the thermostat is out of warranty, but wanted to think on other possible solutions.

One other possibility is to add a tiny switch box right next to the thermostat on the wall for the hi/lo switch.

Given the fact that most of our camping is in parks without hookups, I don't have the hi/low switch high on my "honeydew" list at the moment.

Congratulations on the Digital Thermostat Mod. Although at first it may seem a little intimidating it is actually a very simple mod. Even adding the Hi/Lo switch is very easy. I am sure you are really going to appreciate this mod on your trip. After I did the mod, I was amazed I didn't do this mod sooner.
