Converting 12v Light is it possible?

I am thinking about converting 1 of the 12v lights in the master bedroom area to a cigarette lighter plug. The device I want to plug in is rated at 2.1 amps on 120 and 5 amps on 12v (does that make sense?) I want to make sure I am reading the power supply correctly.

My questions is will I be able to pull 5amps on the 12v light circuit?

I know most of the 12v circuits have 15 amps fuses but that does not mean 1 device is able to pull 5amps or 1/3 of that circuit load.

Thanks in advance.

OK I'm kind of lost does this device work on 12 volts DC or are you talking about a plug in device that has an external power supply? If it is a DC device drawing 5 amps yes it will work fine in place of the lamp. Each lamp draws about 2 amps so you could still use a few at the same time

It can work on 12v DC and pull 5 AMPS max. - So you answered my question. Thank you. I was concerned about the wiring possibly being too thin of a gauge to pull the full 5 AMPS safely.

So, did you install a cig lighter plug in place of your 12v light in the bedroom? Great idea for charging electronics while "off the shore power". photos?

On my SOB, in the bedroom over the bed 12 Volt lights, I ran a wire down to a shelve on each side, put a power connection so that we both can charge up whatever we need to. In the livingroom, I put a couple power connection around the room so that we charge up what we need to. We do alot of boondocking so it make it real nice. Chuck and Terry
