Ceiling leak and roof patching...
My 'new' '83 had a sag in the ceiling. Turned out the antenna bracket on the roof was bent and letting the rain in. I patched those holes, then decided to take off the antenna. That led to a bigger patch. The underside wood was destroyed, so, in for a penny, I went for the vent cap too. That was broken and buried under caulk. I sealed the 2-10" aluminum patches I made. I installed pressure-treated bracing and I'm getting ready to re-insulate and put in the new ceiling section. If anyone knows a fairly good way to take out the ceiling panels, I'd love to know. My wife wants me to 'make the ceiling sections match'. Maybe next month.
I'll post pics from my computer. IPad doesn't like to post pics on the forum!

An easy way to take out ceiling panels? And then to make them match afterwards…
That’s a Tuffy…
I do not know for sure on your 83. Mine the ceiling panels goes between the wall plate and the roof. Meaning you most likely need to cut/slit the panel from the wall joint to get it out. I’m assuming you are not raising the roof to do this… Then create something wood of sorts in the raft area later to add the new material to hold it up.
Good luck and looking forward to the pics.
John

As far as I know, the 1983 should be the same style as John describes.
The only way I know of for getting a full panel in there is to break the old one out and then try to flex the new panel in. It can turn to a bad situation quickly if you try bending it too much and crack the panel. But it should have enough play in it to get it in there. I did one like that (the bedroom panel) and it looked good when done, but it was tough when having to slide it in over cabinets.

Thanks you guys! I have found that I'm pulling out pieces of the ceiling with needlenose pliers, because as you said, the panel is mounted onto the frame from the bottom, then screwed into the cabinetry (from the top) before the roof was laid. Got the screws out of the cabinets with pliers. This weekend I'll try to shimmy the panel in. Only about $12 at Lowes so not a huge deal. Here are pics up to that point...
