Bathroom sink

We have the standard white "kiddie" sink in our 2499. It's such a small sink and I'd like to do something to get a little more room there. I first thought that a bigger sink would do it since there's a few inches from the sink to the wall behind it that would allow for one, but for now I'm looking at the faucet. The spout is low and extends over the sink probably more than it has to, so I'm considering replacing it with something maybe taller and with less extension into the sink.

The hot water faucet squeaks and I've applied silicone to the inner workings several times to quiet it, but the squeak has come back both times so I would like to replace it anyway.
If that doesn't do it, then I'll look into a larger replacement.

Has anyone done anything like this already?
Thanks,
Rich

Rich,

I have replaced the faucet. I will take pics on Sunday and post.

The faucet squeak, and it gets so hard to turn it is like the knob will break off. I had this issue in the shower too. This year I found a better fix that so far is lasting. Food grade silicone grease. My water softener place turned me onto this as they use it on large O rings for water filters. I put some of this silicone grease on the rubber seals and it works. I use to use the spray and that does work but does not last but the grease has more mass to it and I'm on month 8 now and counting and it is still working well.

I have not replaced the sink.

Hope this helps

John

Yep, I've used the same stuff for that same purpose! I keep the little tin of it in a ziploc with a small clean paint brush, to brush it on.

I replaced the faucet on the sink in our bathroom. We didn't like how close to the back of the sink the short spout was. Just purchased a standard household faucet at the home store. It's a direct swap, the sink stopper pull is not used so there is just an empty hole where it usually goes between the handles. New one seems to use less water, the pump runs less. Handles have a more sturdy feel, want to do the kitchen next.

Hi Rich,

Here is the faucet I changed in our 2004 T-310SR. This is a standard bath faucet out of the lumber yard. I did however add a shut off valve in the hot and cold line in the cabinet under the sink to throttle down the water flow. I throttle the flow when we boondock to not waste water. The camper original faucet had a built in restrictor but a home faucet at the time I bought will pass lots more water. Some of the newer faucets may now have a flow restrictor in them.

I did not replace the sink. It is starting to yellow and I have been thinking on how to help correct that short of replacing it.

Hope this helps

John

Thanks John,
Your sink is like ours, square with the faucet mounted on the sink, but your son's is round with the faucet mounted on the counter top behind the sink up near the wall. That gives more room in the sink.
Both your and our sinks have space behind the sink and that was one reason I was thinking of cutting the counter top for a deeper sink, to utilize the space between it and the wall.

Our sink was damaged and I replaced it with a new unit from Bontragers for $29.00

About the flow restrictor, doesn't opening the faucet handle less do the same thing? Or is it a matter of getting the same pressure at a lower flow rate with the restrictor?

Rich

I've seen a few with the round sinks like Ben has, but I'm not sure why. Mine also has the square one. The round one was only something around in the last few years, maybe 2005 and up.

Hi Rich, thanks for the lead on Bontragers for a new sink. I may go that route rather then trying to paint etc the old one.

On the flow restriction, yes, for sure if you just tweak the faucet handle you can regulate the flow. In this case the new faucet being a mono lever handle to start with and being a much higher volume faucet, it took just about zero effort to turn the thing on full blast.... The lever moves so easy it was on full flow without even thinking about it. By then, a pint to a quart of water went down the drain trying to fiddle with the lever. So rather then trying to create restriction disks in the aerator, I opted for the adjustable valve in the hot can cold supply line.

When we are on full hook up, (not often) I can open them up. When on boondocking of doing general camping with on-board tanks, I can tweak them into super water economizing mode. We can go 4 days on a full fresh tank with the 2 of us, doing dishes, taking showers and general faucet use on the restriction methods.

This is one issue going mono lever and normal home faucet replacement. They use more water then the RV faucet unless you do something to overcome this. If you had a 2 knob type faucet, by the pure nature of them they do not go onto full blast so fast. A fast moving mono lever faucet, she wants to head to the races instantly...

Thanks

John

So you put the restrictor in a place that every water outlet would be affected? Where?

Well no, not like that. The other faucets/ toilet etc do not have this full blast issue as they are knob faucets and have the RV restrictor in the aerator.

I installed 2, PEX ball valves. One in the hot water and one in the cold water supply line under the sink in the bathroom. Cut the pipe, insert valve, crimp the fittings. These 2 valves only work for the bathroom new mono lever faucet. A Flare-It shutoff would work as well if someone does not have a PEX crimper.

I did not change the sink, I think as Sunline Fan mentioned it was a later change. Ours is 2006 and the 2005 we just fixed was round too I think. With the two handle faucet we only normally turn the knob about halfway for just washing hands, it will let more water out if opened all the way.

This is a peculiar change. Every 260/264SR, 267/276SR, and 330SR that I looked at (a lot) used the round bowl sink since 1998. From '98-early '05, I saw more of the one piece round sinks where the faucet mounts to it. Then they started phasing in the other kind.

But just in those models. I didn't look at all years, but looking at most models for all the model years, I didn't see the round bowl in another floorplan at all, and definitely none of the non-slides.

Not sure why they did this, but I wonder if it's related to the depth of the counter. Ben and John, do you think you can get a measurement of both your counter depths to the wall at the sink? The models in question here all have fairly large baths, with most having them in the rear. I can see the outside shower might play a role in the 264SR, but it's nowhere near in a 267, so I don't think so. Plus, my '97's outside shower is right by the sink, and it's a square bowl.

Sure, its easy to check out the camper sink, when you are camping in it. The total counter depth at the sink is 16" the bowl is about 12" at the top and there is 2.5" from wall the sink where the faucet is.

H'mm, OK the plot thickens. Today I was looking at a 2007 brochure for something and noticed, if you look at the floor plans you can see which models have the small square sink and which have the oval bowl sink. They show up on the floor plans!

I never really gave this a thought before as I have never had the oval sink. And while I have seen them in BenB's 2006 T-264SR and the 2005 T-264SR we just repaired it never really dawned me as to why?

Here I'll throw this in to make this even more complex...I only searched the 2007 models and the 2004 models.

2004, T264SR, rear bath, oval sink, stepped width counter top cabinet
2004, T330SR, side wall bath, oval sink, full width counter top
2004, T320SR, large rear bath option, oval sink, full width counter top
2004, T320SR, rear bath with bunks, square sink, full width counter top
2004, T317SR, side wall bath, oval sink, stepped width counter top cabinet

2007, T264SR, rear bath, oval sink, stepped width counter top cabinet
2007, T276SR, side wall bath, oval sink, full width counter top

I did not find the oval sink in any non slide camper. They seem to only show up "sometimes" in the slide room campers. I had thought that it may have been that it needed to be rear wall situation to allow the oval sink but that does not seem to hold true as the 2004 T330SR and the 2004, T317SR have mid bath rooms and the sink is on a side wall. And then I thought, well maybe it needs a full width counter top. Nope, they have oval sinks in the stepped counter tops too.

After seeing BenB's dimensions (16") on a stepped width counter top, I'm wondering why my T310SR or my prior 2004 T2499 could not accept an oval sink? By the dimensions it should fit.

See here.

2004 T310SR, stepped width countertop. The smaller width is 12 1/2" wide. The sink full area is 16 1/2" with 3" clearance behind the sink and wall.

The cabinet on my prior 2004 T2499. I no longer have this to go measure it, but it looks like the same setup as my T310SR

BenB's countertop shows 16". Well my T310SR is 16" 1/2" and it has a square sink. At the moment, my T310SR and maybe my prior T2499 may have been able to accept the oval sink.

Rich, maybe you can verify your T2499 at the sink area and the stepped narrower area?

So, this bring us to, why did Sunline put oval sinks in some floor plans but not others? It does not appear to be the countertop or the cabinet below it as the driving factor. And why only in some slide campers?

Hope this helps

John

My money is on something like this:

Boss:
I got a great deal on these oval basins. What are we building today?

Construction Chief: Slide-outs.

Boss: Put 'em in.

Construction Chief: You're the boss.

Yes John, I noticed the square sink/round sink differences in the brochures too. I'm actually surprised they provided details like that on a brochure drawing.

Our 2499 has a counter depth of 16-1/8" at the sink, 17" across the front edge which widens to 21-1/2" where it blends into the shorter counter depth. I was going to provide photos, but we're camping right now and I didn't think I'd be able to do it on my phone. Hopefully the dimensions make sense.
If I decide to go with the round sink, I may have to add a layer of formica over the existing layer to eliminate the corner cut of the square sink. I have a sheet and some scraps of the exact color used in our Sunline left over from a project I did years ago.

Ok I might have solved the mystery. I think it has to do with the lower cabinet and the drain. I noticed in the pics of JohnB T2499 and T310SR the lower cabinet is only the depth of the shorter stepped part and there is a little bump for the sink basin. Looking at the top view of the square sink it appears the drain may be slightly to the back from center. My round sink looks to be right in the middle and sink lip is almost to the front of the counter. My under cabinet is stepped too with more depth under the counter. I measured and the farthest out edge of the trap nut is just shy of 11" from the wall. JohnB could confirm the depth of the drain on his the see if it closer to the wall. Im thinking that my sink with the less deep lower cabinet may not work as the outside of the cabinet is probably close to 11".
