Fortunately
Lack of light is interesting. We once built and lived in a Geodesic Dome in the woods. You could go our on a Moonless night and not seen your hand in front of your face. The sky is amazing in those places, but there's alos a measure of aprehension as well.
Fortunately there are many dark area to camp wher there are no lights, where the only sounds are the wind.
We camped in Chaco Canyon, supposedly 75 miles from a street light. Once on a hike in Chaco it was so quiet Ginny commented that she could hear a bird flapping it's wings.
If you want the absence of light you must in general seek the absence of people. One of the beautiful aspects of traveling north, way north, is that there are many of these places. Of course this is also true in the spots in the western part of the country.
