Adirondack Meet & Greet in October
Hubby asked me to look into Nick's Lake Meet & Greet, and we now have reservations for October 5, 6 & 7. We booked into Loop C, so hopefully we'll get to meet some of you. I've been looking forward to going to Old Forge, so this is a perfect opportunity for us. See ya soon! SunlineSheri and Hubby (pwb01).

OK, I finally booked a site for the fall M&G. We'll be arriving on the 4th for 4 nights at site 52. We're looking forward to meeting those able to make it and put faces with some of the names. And thanks to Poppy and Nonny for taking the time to check out the sites for me.

As Sheri said (above) we're booked for October 5,6,7,8 arriving later in the evening on Friday to site 47 in Loop C. We usually book an extra night as we did here so that we're not stuck to the 11am checkout time on the 7th. See you all there.

Hi, everyone...I might actually be able to join in during that weekend in October.
One other group that might be there (about a dozen campers) is an informal group of teardrop trailer owners--in the spring they go to FCP and call it "Spring--Tear up the Adirondacks." In the fall, it's the Fall Tear Down. Last year it was Sept 7-8-9, but the year before (2005) it was that second weekend in October. It's an informal gathering, not unlike the one you're putting together here, so the date's not set in stone, and the information isn't up on the teardrop forum yet.
But Nick's Lake in October sounds beautiful...and my work schedule ought to be considerably lighter by then!

Gaelen,
The last time I talked to Dave (Camp ADK) from the FCP forum he said plans for the Tear Down were for Sep, but as you said, that's subject to change. We're at Rollins Pond every year they have the Tear-Up and always stop by to chat with them. It would be neat to have the tear drops there the same time as the Sunline group.

Gail and I (and wounded but rapidly recovering Abby) are booked into Site 38 for the weekend!
(Just so you all know, ReserveAmerica reported 8 sites remaining in the C Loop for the weekend, and 4 of them are for 20' or smaller rigs.)
Two things, please:
First, if you are attending but haven't announced that in this discussion thread, please do so. This will give me an idea of the total number attending.)
Second, I have designed a Sunline Owners Club sign that some of you might want to consider for your camp sites for M&G's. There are two designs, both of which can be printed on a regular printer for your computer. One is 8.5"x11" and the other is 8.5"x14" (standard and legal size paper.)
I printed mine out and decoupaged it to a board, and then sealed it with a sealer which is supposedly good for outdoor applications. You could also just print it out and slip it into a page protector, too. The possibilities are endless.
They're both in MS Word format which just about everyone should be able to handle. You can find them at:
http://www.frontiernet.net/~gmshubert/8x11Sign.doc
http://www.frontiernet.net/~gmshubert/8x14Sign.doc
You can view the completed sign at:
http://www.frontiernet.net/~gmshubert/S3.JPG
(8/4/07 01:00 AM - found problems in all three URL's and got them working and TESTED them. The two .doc files had a phantom space in them that messed up the url, and the sign pic had a capitalization error. All three are good now. Sorry for the screw up... )

Steve,
The url thing can be pretty picky sometimes. Here's your links:
They're both in MS Word format which just about everyone should be able to handle. You can find them at:
http://www.home.eznet.net/~collins/8x11 Sign.doc
http://www.home.eznet.net/~collins/8x14 Sign.doc
You can view the completed sign at:
http://www.home.eznet.net/~collins/S3.jpg
However, it seems like the sign pic doesn't work. BTW, basically all I did was delete the url tags. On this forum, it seems like they do more harm than good. I've found that just simply typing in a url with no tags works every time.
Jon

This is what I have so far:
38....(Steve Collins)
45....(Poppy & Nana)
47....(pwb01 & sunlinesheri)
52....(mbart5fan)
??....(heaton)
I do know that each NYS DEC Campground keeps a number of sites as "non-reservable" so even if you decide to attend at the last minute, there will almost certainly be sites available. I can't promise that they'll be exactly where you might want them, but probably not that far away.
There are water spigots at Site 54, across from Site 39, at Site 41, at Site at 43, and at Site 51. As of last fall, none of the spigots have garden hose threads on them so you'll want to remember to pack your "water thief" if you plan on refilling your tank via a hose.
There are men's and ladies lavatories in the center of the loop, easily accessible from several trails around the loop.
There are no electric hookups. Generator hours are 9-11 AM and 4-7 PM.
No power boats allowed on the lake, but it is some of the best paddling I've ever enjoyed.
It only takes about 10- 15 minutes to get down into Old Forge village, and there is a nice grocery store and a drug store right at the base of the hill if you need essentials in a hurry.
There are large shower facilities at the head of A Loop and more were under construction last year, but I can't remember which loop it's in.
Firewood sales have been unreliable in the campground over that past few years. However, there are several good vendors outside the park. We usually go to one guy down on the spouthwest edge of the village who sells by the 1/4 cord as well as smaller units. I can't remember the exact location, but perhaps Poppy & Nana, can help with that.
(New York State is discouraging folks from bringing firewood from home. There is a invasive bug that kills all the ash trees, and it is now within 75 miles of the NY border down in PA. So they want you to use only locally cut firewood.)

Sorry Steve not sure WHICH firewood vendor you might be talking about - there are numerous places to buy wood....hopefully we'll have some left for October!

I can't remember the name of the road that the guy is on, but he is on one of the roads off of Indian Trail down at the base of the hill. He's the only one we found that sells 1/4 face cords. Very reasonable prices.
Anyway, I am sure that we'll all be able to find firewood, just wanted to point to out everyone that firewood sales inside the campground haven't been reliable the past few years.

I could probably find a local person to sell by 1/4 cord if anyone is interested!
I just e-mailed one person - I'll let you all know what he says!

Kathy, you aren't doing anything wrong. Somehow both of the files are messed up. Rather that try to fix them, I will just send them to anyone who wants them.
Just send me your email address in a PM and I'll shoot the files right out to you.
Kathy, you should already have yours.
Sorry to all.

OK, I have no idea what happened to the files, but they are now repaired and working fine. I just uploaded good versions of them, and tested them both by downloading and opening them.
They are:
http://www.frontiernet.net/~gmshubert/8x11Sign.doc
http://www.frontiernet.net/~gmshubert/8x14Sign.doc
If you have trouble downloading or opening them, drop me a PM with your email address and I will send them to you directly.
My apologies to anyone who had problems with them. They should be good now.

OK - one contact said he would be out of the "wood business" after Labor Day (sales where real good this summer)
Another (our local retired forest ranger) will deliver 1/2 (face) cord for $45.00 - full (face) cord for $70.00 - by the way a full face cord bought in bulk is going for $65.00 - we heat by wood and we had a very hard time finding wood for the season - had to go 30 miles away to get 15 cord!
So if anyone is interested, either let me (PM me) know and I can arrange or you can contact them Kiel and/or Doug Riedman at 315-369-3578. My thoughts are to get a group together and order a full cord to save a few bucks on each load.......
