See previous threads for lots of details about the weekend. The format doesn't change much from year to year.
We try to have everyone reserve a site in the C loop so that we are all within easy walking distance of each other. We also rent the smallest site in the loop for use as a group site where we gather for campfire, potluck dinners, and more. Everybody chips in for that, usually just a few dollars each.
Saturday night is a potluck dinner; everyone brings a dish to pass and their own flatware, plates, etc. There's always more than enough food. This past year, we had to get dinner pretty much done by dark because of a report of bears in the area. They're not dangerous if left alone, but they are attracted to food so we had everything cleaned up and put away earlier than usual although I think the bar stayed open.
There's plenty of discussion during the year, and as the weekend draws closer, lots of details and planning happens.
Nicks Lake is a New York State campground just a couple of miles from Old Forge, NY. Reservations are made through Reserve America. You can reserve a site 9 months ahead of your arrival day for up to two weeks. Be sure to log in early and be ready to book a site at 09:00 if you have a specific site in mind.
If you go here:
Nicks Lake Campground Campsite Photo Database you will find pictures and detailed info about each site in the park.
Ask away if you have any other questions. Nicks Lake is one of our favorite parks.
