2009 M & G in the Adirondacks??

Fellow North East Sunline Campers

Is there a 2009 M & G in the Adirondacks this year? Trying to plan this years camping season and we might just take a week plus trip towards Northern NY with the camper in tow. We would really like to line it up with the Fall M & G if there is one.

So, is there one? I did not see any info on one or dates.

Thanks

John

I don’t remember any dates being talked about or decided on at this years ADK M&G.
But I'm sure everyone that was there wants to continue, so I fully expect there will be a 2009 ADK M&G.

I’m willing to start the discussion for a 2009 ADK M&G.

I vote for the last week of September; Fri. Sept 25 – Sun Sept. 27 at the same place - Nicks Lake.

Anybody else want to voice their opinion?

Hutch

Hutch, We are interested. On the dates, we can do Sept 25 - 27 but asking a question if 1 week earlier would make the weather slightly better? I thought you hit rain the last 2 years but the color was full ON....

I grew up about 3 hours south and September was Apple picking time and it seemed to always rain late in the month dropping almost ever McIntosh apple to the ground.... It was like clock work…. Inside the apple was ready the 1st week in Sept. and green as grass on the outside. It was too hot at night to turn the apples red. Then later in the month, cool nights come, apples all turn red at once and it rains sending them to the ground. Oh Mother nature... or is it trying to hit USDA No 1 Fancy grade and no ones wants green Mac apples that is the problem

I know we can’t predict the weather and to us campers we call it “Liquid Sunshine”, just asking if someone from the area has a magic crystal ball on the weather for the last weekend in September. Those beautiful mountains hold weather patterns different then us out here in the flat lands where the wind blows everything right thru…..

So we are a vote for Sept 25 – 27 or Sept 18 – 20.

John

The campground closes on Columbus Day which is late this year (the 12th.) We could do the weekend of Friday the 2nd thru Sunday the 4th, or the last weekend in September works, too.

(Actually, for me personal, I'd prefer a weekend in September as my October is crammed full of my annual high school homecoming. I'm Treasurer of the Alumni Association, and it's a ton of work for me during the first half of the month.)

The weather can be all over the place, so earlier in September is not necessarily a guarantee of a great weekend. We've been in t-shirts and shorts in mid-October, but needed parkas and boots in late September up there.

The only weekend to avoid is the last one before Columbus Day. The park is FULL to the brim with campers getting in their season-enders. By going a week or two earlier, we pretty much had the place to ourselves in 2008. There was only one or two units in C loop that were not part of our M&G.

I sent Hutch an email suggesting the weekend of the 2nd of October, but on further reflection, I like the last weekend in September much better.

A & B Loops are closed for the season after Labor Day. C Loop has 17 reservable sites, and all of them are available as of right now. D Loop has 23 reservable sites, and all of them are available, too. E Loop has even more sites, but half of them are already reserved. E Loop is super popular due to its proximity to the lake and the beach and the boat launch, so we probably need to skip E Loop.

So it's either C or D Loops. Gail and I have always been partial to C Loop, but we would not mind being in D loop either.

Depending on my work schedule, we usually arrive a day early or stay a day later or both. Several other folks have done the same thing.

The last weekend of September is good for us too. We're looking forward to it again, rain or shine. It is getting about that time to reserve the site. Seems like we were just there.

Doesn't sound like there's any issue with staying in C Loop for this year.

So, before anyone makes any reservations, last call for any discussion on date or loop....

If there's no further discussion by noon on Sunday, January 11th, we'll be settled on the last full weekend of September (Friday the 25th to Sunday the 27th) in C Loop of Nick's Lake.

Click here for the link to ReserveAmerica.com for Nick's Lake.

Steve

So far 5 of us have expressed interest which I think meets the guidelines of a M & G. Guideline being needing at least 2….. So I guess we have a quorum.

We are really wanting/trying to swing this, this year for our vaction and may even plan to come in days earlier and a day or so later. Even went to Mikes video from last year to refresh the memory cells. Yes , our kind of camping. We are “in the woods” and that lake is calling me and my paddle…

Researching some, is this the NY state park site of Nicks Lake? DEC Nicks Lake

Next question is site length. My TT is 34 feet ball to rear bumper and the sites site 50 – 55 say 40 feet. Is there enough room for the truck in there too? I don’t know how they declare the 40 feet since it is gravel pads.

Would we even fit in a 30 foot site? Or have 4 feet hanging out in the road? Hutch had his 30 footer in there as well as Mikes.

OK I’m getting camping fever just thinking about this. We camped last weekend and this weekend it is suppose to snow…

John

John,

Sites 50-55 are big enough for whatever you bring.... They are huge. Mike's (mbart5fan) TT is about the same size as yours, and he's got a TV the same size as yours, too. He had plenty of space to spare. Plenty of room all around.

Even the 30' sites are pretty spacious. You'll be fine.

You have the right link to DEC's site for Nick's Lake. I linked the reserveamerica page for reservations above, and there's a link on reserveamerica back the DEC site as well.

Nick's Lake is paddle power only, and is just the right size for a couple of hours of exploration. Be sure to check out the tiny island with the American flag on it.

There's plenty to see and do in the area including riding on the excursion train. I think you'll like it.

Nobody has expressed any thoughts on changing from C Loop, so C Loop it is, and the last full weekend of September '09 at Nicks Lake SP Campground.

Moderator, please lock this thread. I will start a new one with and "official" announcement...
