2008 Eastern M&G Kayaking / Canoeing
Please vote if you are(n't) interested in Kayaking or Canoeing while at Buttonwood. You do not have to commit now. I just want to get a rough number to plan.
There are two parts to this poll. Please first vote yes or no. Then, reply to this post with a number of people.
I know Buttonwood has canoes available, but I think I remember hearing that the river is a little shallow for a canoe. Maybe someone who was a part of the kayaking last year can say if it's canoe-able or not.
Jon

All:
Here’s a link to Buttonwood’s Kayaking rental page.
They have 2 hour and 3 hour trips.
Currently they have:
20 - Kayaks (3 which are tandems)
10 - Canoes
They will provide shuttles to the drop off and from the pick-up points. For individuals with their own kayaks / canoes the campground will allow you to use their shuttle for a minimum charge / person.
Please include in your reply the # people / kayaks
Length of trip we'll confirm Friday evening.
The campground has asked that we let them know how many people are interested in kayaking. Therefore, I will be informing the campground around the end of May / beginning of June on our plans.
Thanks
Hutch

Trip length doesn't matter to me, but if we decide to do our own dinner, I think I might be more inclined to go with the 2 hour trip, unless we can go like right after lunch.

Well, I just spoke with Helen. We're concerned about leaving our dog alone in the TT all afternoon (a new experience for Bella). Therefore, we will remove our names from the kayak list and free up 2 kayaks for another couple.

Hey Al,
Done, sorry you won't be joining us. But you can always inquire if anyone is interested in Dog Sitting for a couple of hours while you and Helen go kayaking.

We will also bring our own canoe. Pam & Steve if they won't do a shuttle for us, we can just do our own. And for Al, have you thought about renting a canoe and taking the dog with you? If you don't like the idea of a canoe, we could take your dog if you think she will stay in the canoe.

Yes we'd be up for doing our own shuttle if necessary.

Pam & Mike,
Nancy - Buttonwood CG owner said there would be no problem with you guys using their shuttle. She said there would be a minimal charge, maybe a few dollars / person.
Therefore, you don't have to do your own shuttle if you don't want to.
Currently they have:
20 - Kayaks (3 which are tandoms)
10 - Canoes
They're thinking about purchasing more Kayaks and maybe another 15 passanger van.
I told Nancy I would let her know about a month prior to our arrival how many people will be in our group and how many kayaks / canoes we'll need, so she can schedule it.
No deposit will be required, each person can take care of that when they arrive.
Thanks
Hutch

We would be interested in either a canoe or a 2 person kayak. Either 2 or 3 hours is OK by us.

Well I'm interested, maybe. How does this work? Do they drive you upstream and you paddle back to the campground? I have 2 kayaks, nothing special, just Dick's Sporting Goods specials. My brother and I tool around a bit in the creek by our favorite campground, but its a very still body of water. I don't have any experience in anything else. I'm interested, but the wife isn't so sure. If anyone who did this last year could fill me in I'd appreciate the information.
Thanks, Lowell

Lowell,
We did it last year and it was our first time ever kayaking, it was a lot of fun. The river was a slow flowing, gentle river, but water level was also low at the time we did it last year.
They have multiple trips, which they provide shuttles to drop-off and pick-up points. Last year we put in across the street from the campground, we walked to the drop off point. We took a 2 hour trip down the river and they picked us up there.
Check out the pictures from last years M&G @ Buttonwood, there's a few pictures of our kayaking trip sprinkled in that may also give you some idea of what the river is like.
Hope this helps some.
Hutch

I was pretty timid about trying kayaking last year, to the point of insisting on going in a double with someone. (thanks Roz ) Anyway, the river was really calm, but there is enough flow to carry you downstream without putting much effort into paddling. We stopped and swam to cool off. The water is very shallow, so what we really did to cool off was wade. We loved it so much that we went out and bought a kayak

Canoeing/Kayaking
I'll be bringing a single yak for myself and will need to use the shuttle service. I'd prefer a longer paddle, but any trip length is fine.
BTW, are there any places along the way where you can stop for a picnic lunch or just kick back and watch the clouds for a while?

Kayaking
We will be coming for the first time, actually our first M&G ever. We have our own kayaks and gear, but would enjoy going with the group.

trip length
I just noticed I did not choose a trip length. Fred and I will kayak as long as the sun is shining and the water is flowing! So either length of trip works well for us.

Rob and Kathy H would be interested in renting either a canoe or double Kayak or 2 kayaks. Length of trip does not matter.
