OK - how does site 54 look for the M&G site? it is a 20' back in site with water at the site? Or site 51 which is 30' back in , there is water at this site also (I think)...
Here is a link to Loop C @ Nick's Lake Campground
http://www.reserveamerica.com/campin...=NY&parkId=699

Here is what is in Loop C:
37 - 30' back in - Tom & Mary have already reserved this site!
38 - 30' back in - Mike & Roz are coming this year and have reserved this site
39 - 30' back in - water cross from this site
40 - not available it is for walk in only
41 - 15' tight squeeze - water at this site
42 - 30' pull thru
43 - 20' back in - water at this site
44 - 30' back in - Doug & Lorie booked this site
45 - 30' back in - Leo & Kathy have already reserved this site!
46 - 20' back in
47 - 30' back in - Paul & Sheri have this full hook up site this year!
48 - not available it is for walk in only
49 - 30' back in
50 - 40' back in -
51 - 30' back in -
52- 40' back in - Mike & Judy have this site this year
53 - 40' back in -
54 - 20' back in - RESERVED FOR M&G THIS YEAR - water at this site
55 - 40' BACK IN - Harvey & Jan had this site last year

I guess it is time that we try to make our reservations, as weekends here in the Old Forge region, are a "hot spot" for campers!

Here's a picture of Loop C & B (indicating the current Sunline Reserved Sites): Updated 03/10/08

I think Site # 54 would be an excellent choice for the M&G.

Since site # 51 is larger, it would be better suited for someone to use with their Sunline.

I have to agree with Tom: 54 is perfect for the gathering site, leaving a larger site for soneone with a TT. It's got water right there, and it's an easy walk to the bathrooms.

We decided we would come to this M&G in September, so we reserved site 38 next to Tom & Mary. Sorry Steve, I didn't read the posts before I reserved. If I had seen you wanted site 38 again, I would've got site 39. If you book site 39 for Fri, Sat, & Sun I would be willing to switch with you.

Mike & Roz, not to worry, there are a bunch of sites in the loop that we haven't tried yet, and we'll get another. We've been going up there for many years, and really should not get locked into a single site....

See you there!

Paul & Sheri have site 47 again with the utilities this year. I do have a feeling though that there may be a few other sites with full hookup this time, maybe even Wi Fi.

Looking forward to another great weekend,

Judy and I have reserved site 52 again. I'll bring the canopy again, it worked well last year just keeping the leaves off us during meals.

We're your neighbors now! Just reserved site 53. Gail had foot surgery this winter, and we're hedging our bets that she'll be OK walking around by then, but this keeps her close to home if her foot starts to bother her.

I'll have our 10x10 shelter again this year plus the FCP Lean-To if needed.

The following sites are still available in C Loop:

39, 43, 46, 49, 50, and 51

Reserved site 43 for Thurs, Fri, and Sat nights. I'm looking forward to seeing that neck of the country... 'upstate NY' has always eluded my travels.

Take care,
Jason

Outstanding, Jason! Sorry to say we won't have the boat that weekend as Nicks Lake is paddle power only. But we'll drag the old red canoe with us.

Welcome aboard!

Adirondack M&G - Dates and Site Services ????

Hello, everybody! We bought a 1989 Sunline trailer (23 foot) last Fall and took our maiden voyage with it just last week to Grand Isle State Park VT and the KOA Lake Placid NY.

We definitely plan on attending the Adirondack M&G in September 2008 at Nick's Lake, but would appreciate your help with a couple of questions before we make a site reservation --- hopefully today!

First, the dates posted for the M&G are Sept. 26, 27, and 28th. Does that mean three nights stay-over including the night of the 28th OR a two-night stay leaving by check-out time on the 28th? We might just arrive on the 25th anyway.

Second, some of your posts indicate that selected sites are serviced with everything from water and electric to WiFi and cable. We called Reserve America and they said that NONE of the Nick's Lake sites have these services. Is their information incomplete or have we misundertood your posts?

Thank you very much for helping us out. Can't wait to meet you and your Sunlines!!!

Welcome and I hope you enjoy your Sunline for many years to come.

The ADK M&G is "unofficially" Friday evening and all of Saturday with folks leaving on Sunday after a group breakfast. Many of us opt to come in a day or two early. We publicize it as Friday the 26th through Sunday the 28th mostly because of the group breakfast on Sunday morning.

Some folks come in early and leave on Sunday, others come on Friday and leave on Sunday, and others don't leave for several days after.

The stuff about the hook-ups is a joke that we've had a lot of fun with over the past year. If you search back, you'll find a message thread on it. Last year, Paul & Sheri (pwb01) had a fake hookup post for water and electric with hose and power cord run to it. I built one after that that also has phone and cable tv plugs. My electric acutally works as I have a 50' extension cord wired into it so I can run over the generator for generator hours. Wi-Fi is just part of the gag.

Nick's Lake SP is no hook-ups (like all the DEC campgrounds in the ADK's), so be prepared to run off battery and propane for the weekend. There is water every few sites around each loop, but you'll need either a carry-can or water thief and hose to get the water into your campsite. If you use the water thief and hose method, they don't mind you filling your fresh water tank, but they don't want it permanently connected. Gotta disconnect and roll it up when you're done filling.

They've got a good dump station, and most folks can get through 4 or 5 days without the need to dump, especially black water.

There are really nice shower/lavatory buildings in each loop (new within the past year or two), and they are no charge so you really don't need to shower in the trailer to conserve filling up your gray water tank.

If you've never dry camped before, this is a great opportunity to learn. A bunch of us dry camp in the ADK regularly so amongst us, we have most of the tips and tricks to share. A couple of them up front so you have an idea of what to bring along:

1. It's going to be late September, so cool weather clothing may be needed. Stuff you can layer up. We've spent the whole weekend in shorts and other years, we got snowed on.

2. Good battery in your TT - most of the refrigerators and hot water heaters need a little bit of 12 vdc to run. Turn off the heater strip on your fridge - it'll run the battery down FAST.

3. Propane/coleman fuel lanterns are really useful - it gets dark early.

4. Flashlights for the same reason.

5. Fresh water carry can or water thief and hose.

6. Bring a yard rake - the leaves pile up fast in your campsite.

7. If you have a small generator, it is nice to have. Recharge your batteries daily, and you have a window to run 110 vac appliances in the morning and afternoon.

Any more questions, just ask. See you in September!

What a speedy reply and lovely welcome! THANK YOU. Serviced sites, indeed!!

Paul and I (Louise) have camped in the ADKs before but exclusively at Rollins Pond State Park. I've been going there with extended family since childhood and am 53 now.

We traded in our tents for a trailer just this year and have a LOT to learn. We bought a 23-foot 1989 Sunline trailer (have to check on the model #) in a private sale. We had an RV specialist give it a detailed inspection afterwards and the good news is that everything works (all the applicances, windows, plumbing, etc.) except for the fridge switch being stuck on propane. Not sure a replacement switch can be found or is worth finding.

The bad news is the back-end was rebuilt owing to water damage. It is sealed okay but the floor has dropped some. The specialist concluded that the trailer will last us a few years so long as we weren't planning a bunch of cross-country trips --- and we are not.

Net/Net: We are still happy about the purchase, enjoyed our first trip immensely, and revelled in the creature comfort it affords.

Thanks for the heads-up about the water thief. What is the 'heater strip' on the fridge?? What are advantages of re-charging the battery using a small generator rather than our pick-up truck's engine?

And, do you have any idea why a laptop computer would not power up when plugged into trailer's wall plugs? We had a 30-amp electric hook-up at the KOA. The laptop worked fine once back at home.

Now, I better be off and make that reservation for the M&G!!

Best regards,

Louise.
