Wi-Fi

Our laptop computer has been a good traveling companion. Many commercial campgrounds offer free wireless internet. Panera Bread usually offers free Wi-Fi also. Sometimes it's possible to connect from their parking lot even after they close. MSN's Wi-Fi hotspot locator http://hotspot.msn.com/web/SearchView.aspx maps out free or pay Wi-Fi access locations.

For those of use without mapping software, Google Maps will provide point to point directions that are usually good.

Virtual Tourist sometimes has good recommendations for things to see and places at which to eat. http://www.virtualtourist.com/

Gas Buddy http://www.gasbuddy.com/GB_StateList.aspx can often locate the most economical place to fuel up.

Our local library offers a huge assortment of audio books for download.
We downloaded several books using campground Wi-Fi.

When travelling without the trailer, we used Priceline and Biddingfortravel
to find hotel and motel discounts. With the laptop and Wi-Fi we could book a room the same day we arrived in a location, and save considerably over normal rates.

We just pulled into our driveway in Portland. Yesterday we crossed over Lolo Pass in a snowstorm. In Butte I decided to unhitch the Hensley. I promptly forgot how the manual shows how to do it, and unhitched at the receiver instead of loosening the overcenter locks. Trying to rehitch that way in a snow storm was lots of fun. I managed to get the hitch strut tension too loose. When we got on the slick interstate, semis were blowing us all over the place. I had disabled the sway control!

After rehitching and re-tensioning the struts, we had a nice sway-free ride.

The Columbia Gorge on a warm sunny day was beautiful.

The 1950 seems just right for us. It could use more closet space, and the storage space under the bed could be more accessible. More projects!

The Jeep Liberty diesel seems to be up to the job. Fuel economy varied from 12.8 to 17 MPG. Usually Oregon fuel prices are higher than elsewhere. The ban on self-service is blamed. Right now, fuel here seems cheaper than most other places we passed through. The Flying-J here sells diesel for $2.77. In Wyoming they were selling it for $3.13

Wobbly,

Glad to hear you got home safely. Of course, it was 63 and sunny here today . Remember what I told you about MI weather?

It was about 36F with a bitter wind when we arrived in Midland. After your portrait of dilapidated traffic-clogged highways and economic depression,
we found conditions better than expected. The 'burbs were bustling even in Roger and Me.

Sure glad to hear you made it fine. I too transported my T2553 across the states from PA last year in the first part of May. Rain from PA to Wisc. Went through a rain squall in CO with some severe crosswinds. I also have a Hensley and I think the hitch allowed me to come through unscathed. I don't have any sway at all. I can sympathize with you on hitching and unhitching. My wife and I "almost" have the procedure down pat. It gets easier each time. So cheer up.

Joe

Hi Wobbly,

Glade you made it home safely with no major incidences.

I’ve had a Hensley for 5 years now and SanDimasJoe is right, hooking up and un-hooking gets easier over time.

Hooking up is a little more difficult than the conventional ball / coupler hitch. The key that I’ve found over time for hooking up is to get your TV in-line with the trailer so the shank will go straight into the Hensley receiver. I just got a new TV last year. Went from a ½ ton conversion van to a ¾ ton pickup and I’m still getting used to the difference size and perspective of the pickup when trying to getting the TV lined up properly to hook up. Most of the time now I usually get it on the 2nd try, so I’m getting better.

My wife bought me these Magnetic Hitchin' Rods from Camping World for my birthday.

I’ve used them a couple of times and they seem to really help in hooking up.

I really love the Hensley hitch, wouldn't use anything else now.

Have a great summer camping in your new Sunline.
Hutch
