Holiday Travel
DW, the 2 cats and I are going to visit Washington, DC, starting the day after Labor Day, for nearly a week. Hopefully we'll miss all the big crowds.

Heading out tomorrow afternoon, when I am done my bus rus. Only going about an hour from home to Brunswick, MD. It is actually a small "NO FRILLS" city owned campground. They do have water.electric hookups, no sewer or cable. Dump station available. It's about 15 minutes from Harperrs Ferry, as my friend George drives a shuttle bus for HF and he will be working during the day, camping at night.
I got the filthy dirty F-350 scrubbed (Yes scrubbed) last night. It had lots of bugs from the 30 some days on the road. I am hoping to get Sunny scrubbed tonight, and maybe get the last 3 sets of shutters put back on the house. I just returned from the grocery store so "food" is in there.

We're staying home this weekend for two reasons, one to avoid the holiday roads, and two we are working on getting our awning replaced since it had a major argument with the deluge from a thunderstorm last Saturday in PA!!!
Long story, but let's just say it went from clear to nasty in a very short time and we made it back to the trailer just in time for it to collapse. The main roller broke near the center support. It just couldn't shed the water fast enough
One neighbor had theirs blow over the trailer damaging the roof a/c, hatch covers, and side of trailer, so we were lucky it's just the awning. Many tents torn up, a couple of trees down, a few other awnings messed up, like I said NASTY. Another neighbor said they started to put their awning away at the first crack of thunder and ended up hanging on to it during the worst of the storm. This was at the Knoebel's Lake Glory Campground in Catawissa, PA, about 15 miles SE of Williamsport.
We are headed to Ocean City, MD next weekend. Hopefully, we'll have the new awning on by then

We're heading for our favorite campground: Pioneer Campground, Laporte, PA. It's a nice place to just relax. All sites are wooded/shaded. The sites have electric, water and cable - no sewer. There are two state parks nearby, so there are plenty of hiking trails available.

DF4.6:
We stayed in the state park along the gorge at Watkins Glen a few times. That's a great place/ There's something for everyone in that town: The race track, hiking the gorge, wine tasting tours, dinner cruise on the lake, sports car museum and antique shops. Have a good weekend.

Hey Kanyonkitty, how do you like the campground in Brunswick? We live nearby just outside of Frederick, MD and have considered staying there, but haven't gone yet. We also usually like to avoid holiday traffic and will be home this weekend.
Have a good stay,
Rich

We just got back from dropping the coach off at Promised Land State Park. Couldn't get reservations, so we grabbed one of the first come/first served
sites. Took the coach up tonight so we could have our pick of the best sites before the crowd shows up tomorrow. Now as long as we don't have any rangers knocking on our door like last time.

Hey Rich,
THe Brunswick campground is a no frills place, most all lots have nice grass, some are under shade trees, many are basically in a "field" type setting. about 14 sites back up to the river. There is a boat ramp, bath house (which I've never been in), a small playground, and not sure but maybe a horse shoe pit. They offer a nice size load of camp fire wood fo the money. If your into bike riding, your right next to the tow path. Some of the sites have 4 hookups on a pole, so "y's" are needed for water connections. There are 4 electrical outlets on those posts. I am supposed to have sites 1 & 2 which are back-ins right next to the boat ramp, so I will have some river view. My best friend George will also be there with his Sunline 1950. The 4 pole hookups are often used by groups that park in "sorta circles" so that every unit faces the center. I was there 4th of July and it was not rowdy at all and it was Crowded. You do cross several RR tracks to get to the campground (go slow), and then down a narrow gravel road, past the treatment plant to the campground. There is no smell from the plant. Think it was 23 bux a night. Your not too far away, take a ride and check it out. I'll be gone most of the day saturday to a Greyhound adoption promotion, but back for the evening. "IF" you ride up, stop and say hello.
Kitty

We Leo and I will be staying home this weekend ......way too much activity in this small town and being on the ambulance squad, that only means the possibility of ambulance calls
We have to help with Bingo on Saturday night (last one for the season and last year we had 180 players) - Sunday is a big Chicken BBQ that we have been asked to help at and on Monday (when everyone leaves our town) we head out to march in a parade about 50miles away! So we are pretty busy this weekend!
Hope everyone out there has a safe and good holiday weekend!
Happy Camping!

Since I'm still working on the trailer, my 7 year old son and I will be tenting in the backyard this weekend. With the PGA tour and Jimmy Buffett both in town this weekend, there isn't a campsite to be found anyway....

Eighth Lake in th ADK's for us. And when the majority of campers head for home on Monday, we'll still be there for a few more days. Things will get real quiet then.
