When are you camping first in 2010?
For those of us who live in parts of the country where we need to winterize and put our RVs to sleep for a few months, our minds, during the "off" months, often go into planning mode. Like what do we just have ta have to improve our RV and where do we want to go.
Here's my question to you who have to contend with freezing winter weather - "When and to where do you plan to make your first camping outing in 2010?"
My wife and I plan a trip south, for a few weeks, in March. We want to visit Atlanta, Savannah, Charleston, and the southern part of Myrtle Beach.

Charleston is one of our favorite cities; great place to walk around, just peeping in gardens. You'll love it. One of our favorite times to visits is the spring when the azaleas are blooming.

We're going to FL for the month of Mar.--Topsail SP where we've been before and Blackwater SP for the first time. If the weather is nice on the way we're going to try and do a non-Interstate route from Indianapolis south.

Just for anyone who's interested, Cindy and I are managing the winter in Cedar Key at a small Motel/RV Park (5 full hook-up slots) and Tiki Bar
We'd love to have any of you. The place is a birding paradise and we've had Dolphins swimming out off our back dock for the past few days chasing the Mullet during high tide.
The Resort which is called the Lowkey Hideaway is one hour West from Gaineville, an hour North of Crystal River and two hours North of Tampa
As for spots to visit in the warm climates, Charleston has days worth of stuff to keep you busy, Cumberland Island is another day or two worth of sight seeing on Georgia's Atlantic Coast
The Ashville area of North Caronlina has the Biltmore Estate and tons of beautiful waterfalls, but stays somewhat cool till the middle part of February. By March and April, its beautiful in North Carolina and Tennessee
Florida and its coastlines have a wealth of potential from mid-January on down because of nice weather.

Nothing planned until May 21 when we go to Pine Grove Furnace State Park, then Buttonwood in June. Time to start thinking about plans - especially if we want to do something on the holiday weekends!

So far for 2010:
mid Jan-mid Feb.: Half Shell Resort in Satsuma, Fl
all of March: Carabelle RV Resort in Carabelle, Fl
early April: Crooked Creek State Park, GA
So that leaves us with a couple of weeks free in Feb. Pat & Cindy, we might stop by, ok?

Would love to have ya Ron, make sure to visit the Carrabella Police Station, its supposed to be the Worlds Smallest Police Station
Cindy goofing off outside the Phone Booth/Police Station in the Metropolis of Downtown Carrabella. We liked St. Geroge Island much better than Carrabella, but its reservations are very hard to come by. Miles of white sand beaches that are completely empty!!

Thanks for the photos Pat & Cindy, can hardly wait! We are spoiled beach-wise after having spent 4 months on the beach in the Bahamas, so we only appreciate the really nice ones. Then again, scooping sand is one heck of a lot better than shovelling snow, right??

Our first trip for 2010 will be up to High Falls S.P. near Jackson, Georgia for the MLK holiday weekend in January.
Second trip is down to Orlando, Florida in April. We'll be at Bob Frederick Park @ Turkey Lake. It's a small county-run campground we've not been to, but a group we camp with has and this April it will be for a birthday party for one of the member's daughter.

My first camping trip will be in mid January. Unfortunately Lori will not be along for the ride. I have accepted a position in New Bern North Carolina . I start Monday 1/18. Lori will stay behind to sell our house in PA . I will be using the Sunline until the house sells and we can find a new home.
Anyone ever camped in/near New Bern? I am looking for a recommendation for a CG in that area. TIA

Chuck,
I don't have any ideas on CG's there, but just wanted to congratulate you on your new position!

Congratulations on the new position!!
We've stayed in the New Bern KOA and it was very well run with very friendly staff. The KOA is actually across the river from New Bern and only minutes away.

Chuck... congratulations on your new job.
I have some friends who live in NC and are part of a group named the Carolina Campers. I will post your question online and report back any suggestions they have.

As usual, the fine folks from North Carolina are quick with their replies!
Here is what I've been sent so far. Comments are from the folks in Carolina:
Neuseway Nature Park in Kinston. http://www.neusewaypark.com/campground.html
I've heard good things about that small park. Kinston is only 40 minutes from New Bern.
New Bern KOA in New Bern. http://koa.com/where/nc/33180/
There are two National Forest CGs not too far from New Bern. Both of these can be accessed at Cedar Point and Neuse River. Cedar Point is maybe an hour away near the beach, and Neuse River is near Havelock, maybe 30 minutes away. http://www.forestcamping.com/dow/southern/cro.htm
For high end camping, there's Holiday Trav-L-Park Resort at Emerald Isle beach. Just over an hour away. It's expensive, but it gets rave reviews.
http://www.htpresort.com/
*************************************
The Neuseway Nature Park is great! My boys loved the nature center and large playground. IIRC, sites are all full hook-ups, many right on the river. And unbelievably inexpensive - like $12/night. But call ahead of time to make sure they aren't full.
I'll also second the recommendation for Holiday Trav-l Park. As stated, pricey. But the absolute cleanest and well-maintained park we've ever been to.
*************************************
These suggestions, along with what you've probably looked at already, should get you started. I'll send any additional suggestions along as I get them.

From Maine we're heading to Florida the first week in March with our newly purchased 98 T-1950 rather then the class C's we've had before.

Charles:
Suggest you "Search" on posts from: Honda03842
They also have "downsized" from a motorhome to a 1982 Sunline 15.5 SB pulled by a 2004 Honda CRV 4 cyl, manual.
They have had some interesting posts on long trips and interesting mods that they have made to thier trailer to make it more liveable.

First camping trip was to Oscar Sherer State Park in Osprey, Florida between Christmas and New Year's. New Year's Eve was beautiful, but early the next morning it rained, followed by cold weather. In the 30s in the morning. Got a chance to see if the heater worked in the camper.
