website for low clearance underpasses?

Does anyone know of a website that lists low clearance underpasses? I had one in my favorites, but it won't come up. We're taking alot of backroads to get up to Ives Run this weekend, and don't want to run into any trouble. Or if there are any locals that know the roads, we plan to take
183 N from Reading to
901 NW to
54 NW to
80 W
I know we're OK after that because it's all highway.
Thanks!

hope it helps!

Thanks very much. I searched last week and that one didn't come up! I made my first driving boo-boo on the last trip. There was a big sign saying "limited RV parking" at one entrance to the Mount Rogers Recreation Area Visitor Center. Of course we came in the other entrance, which had no sign. Then there was a big "CONSTRUCTION - DO NOT ENTER" sign, so I went into the other parking lot. Sounds good right? Wrong...it dead ended into a dirt road, and we (well actually Steve) had to back the Tweety out. It was not a happy moment. The nice ranger told us we should park in the construction area...go figure I'm not sure how Pat & Cindy manage all their backroads travel without running into these kinds of issues. Our camp host at Claytor Lake told us a story of having to back down a bunch of switchbacks with his 5er out west because he came to a low clearance that had no warning sign posted. I am now officially paranoid of dead ends, dragging the dolly wheels, and low clearances!

I know of one road that is a no no. Connecticut Route 15. I ran this road for a very nervous, nail biting , sweaty, 50 mile stretch last August going to get the 5er. I was blindly following the Garmin and ended up on a road that I wasn't supposed to be on. This Passenger car only expressway was built in the 1930's with no shoulders and low stone overpasses. The low slung T-295SR just cleared the overpasses, thank goodness, and I managed to make it to I-95 without getting busted.

Lowell,

Do you remember when that happened if you had your Garmin in Truck mod or Car mod?

Just curious because we also have a Garmin that we keep in Truck mod when towing. But I don't feel comfortable following it blindly because I'm nervious it'll get me someplace where I don't want to be or shouldn't be, like what happened to you.

Thanks
Hutch

Hutch,

I had the Garmin in car mode. If I had it in truck mode it cut out all of the truck restricted roads that may have been beneficial. Hindsite being 20/20 I should have put it in truck mode and left it there. The unit was a Garmin Street Pilot, which I have since traded for a Magellan.

I have a question for fellow Garmin owners. I cannot find the truck mode on my new NUVI 260. I went back to Bass Pro Shop to inquire about the truck setting: The salesman told me that Garmin discontinued this function. Was he correct or misinformed? Or, does it depend upon the model of Garmin you own?

I can't tell you specifically BUT in the manual it refers to "tools" and "setting" buttons and if all else fails try calling support at 800-800-1020 M-F 8A - 5P Central time or on line at www.garmin.com/support.

Leo and I are still from the stone age and use a good ole' Rand-McNally map
