We have ourselves another mini meet and greet!
We were invited to spend several days with David and Mary Ann at Shenandoah River State Park this week. Kitty hasn't been able to do much of any camping this year and wanted to give it a try. Kitty originally asked me to make the reservations from Tuesday through Sunday, but her chemotherapy prevented us from leaving on Tuesday. David and Mary Ann were even nice enough, to come up to our house and help me get Kitty and Sunny ready to go.
We got here Wednesday evening and got everything all set up. Kitty has been doing as much as her energy level will let her, but she didn't get to leave the camp site until today. I asked her to take a tour of the park with me and she didn't give me too much trouble.. We checked out all the beautiful cabins they have here and even drove to the primitive camping area. We stopped at Cullers overlook and Kitty was able to walk out to the end and have a look. We couldn't believe how beautiful things still are and the trip up there was VERY worth it!
After a short bit of rest in the truck, we went to the SP's visitor's center. The walkway to the door, is about 200 feet long. Kitty felt as if she was strong enough to make it, as long as she could rest when she got there. Luckily, they have seats right inside the door. She rested a bit and then took a tour of the visitor center. They have stuffed representatives of all the local wildlife and it was another worthy trip. After that, we headed back to Sunny..
As I said, we are here with David and Mary Ann. Last evening, we saw ANOTHER Sunline pull in! I pulled a club card out of the truck and we walked up to greet them. Turns out, that they are already SOC members! We were happy to welcome VCRT to our little M&G. The sites here are huge and we have three Sunlines side-by-side! We will definitely be coming back here next year! Next time though, I'll try to remember a spare fuse for the heat strip.. Kitty made up a fresh water hose, for cold weather. The heat strip is run the length of the hose and it is all wrapped in insulation. Sometime last night, the fuse blew and the hose froze up.. Oops!
Here are three pictures from today. I couldn't get into my photobucket account, so they are attachments..

WOW has nice is that to have an unexpected "Mini"!
Most importantly is the fact that Kitty is able to "somewhat" enjoy the last camping trip of the season! Hope she continues to feel better and stronger! Prayers are still coming her way!
David & Mary Ann.....what can I say except thanks for being so considerate to a fellow member!
Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

We made it home safely today. Since Kitty isn't 100%, she couldn't help me get Sunny back in the pit. I actually managed to get it there by myself! I did have a low voltage issue though. The landing gear motor was spinning incredibly slow.. I went in Sunny and the Fantastic Vent was also spinning very slow.
It turned out to be a tripped breaker for the converter. I've never seen that breaker trip before. I also believe my 12v charge line had no power to it either.. I guess it's yet another project to tackle!

Good job backing it in Gary!
Thanks for the pics too, a nice fall setting. Glad you both got out and had a great time!

What a pleasant surprise to find Gary and Kitty, Dave and Mary at this CG! And I think it's interesting that we picked the site we did. We had invited my brother Bob and his wife Sue to come along with us this weekend and as this CG doesn't allow you to pick a site in advance, we drove around looking for one we'd like. Bob said "there's a good one" so we circled back and parked it. I hadn't even noticed the two other Sunlines parked right alongside us (shame on me), but in no time at all, we had a welcoming committee complete with Sunline welcome cards in hand. Now that's real down-to-earth Sunliner's hospitality at work!
I haven't been on this site much lately and didn't know of Kitty's condition, but we will be keeping her in our prayers. We wish you a full recovery Kitty!

We had a great time! It was great being there with our Sunline Family Kitty and Gary. Not to mention having a 3rd Sunny come in! It was great to meet you Barbara and Rich!
Shenandoah River SP is an excellent time, no matter what time of the year. The views are wonderful. The only bad part was leaving! We could have stayed another week or so. I did get a couple of pictures, and I posted them in my albums on Facebook
Our Sunny is all winterized, but we are still thinking of going back out again, if the snow stays way a little longer.

Beautiful looking place! Does it fill up on the weekend at this point? Thinking of using it as an overnight stop but don't want to make a reservation since I'm not sure if we will stop there or not. It will depend on how we feel about another 3 hours of driving at that point.

Ah, yes. (Here's a funny story illustrating a positve side of "the doctrine of unintended consequences")
The nearby town of Front Royal got a federal grant to upgrade its sewage treatment plant. They factored in the effluent from the state park. To keep the plant in operation, they need a specific volume of sewage to treat or the plant can't function. Ergo, this is the only Virginia state park that is open 12 months a year. How cool is that?
Penny and I are going for a New Year's celebration.

Depending on what time of year, but now..the weekends don't get packed. There was still plenty of sites left last weekend. Of course you can always check their reservation page just to see how many sites are left. That is what we go by when we go. Plus this is a first come, first choose your site park. It can be a good/bad thing depending on how you look at it. In the summer months, I would get there as early as you can on your day in. This time of year it dosen't matter. There are usually lot's of empty sites. Oh... and check the website too. I know they are closing down a few days here and there for controlled hunting. They closed down on Sunday for a couple days.

Here's two pictures from Shenendoah River SP taken from the overlook. The first is a view of the CG (partially obscured by trees) other is out to the river.

We have only been home for a few days, and I am ready to go back out! Sunny is winterized, but I am sure we will be doing a lot of winter camping.

So glad you enjoyed it! It is one of our favorites. We were almost going to go this weekend, but didn't due to other last minute family activities or we would have seen you.
Glad you enjoyed your weekend.
Thinking this might be another mini m&g place in 2012!

Pam,
Glad you had a good time. It is indeed a very nice park. Gary is itching to go camping next weekend because he looked at the forecast and it seems to look pretty mild for next weekend, but that could all change quickly. Like MaryAnn said, we could do a Sunline M & G next year

Biking, Hiking and Kayaking! Barbara and I just bought two kayaks and thoroughly enjoyed going down the river at this park. Maybe we can plan a weekend when all of us can make it in the spring. M&G? Sounds good to me!

I would be more than happy to get a meet and greet together for Shenandoah River State Park! Since we have the Western Maryland M&G at Rocky Gap SP for May, and Buttonwood in June, how would April work for everyone?
