Water/weather "proof" (not "resistant") cover

Hi there,

New here! I was curious about covers intended for long term use (no garage or carport unfortunately). There seems to be an abundance of options online and lots of foreign junk on websites like Amazon. I have a 1988 Sunline Saturn M-1550 (15ft) and I need a weather/water-proof cover that can hold up to the harsh Pennsylvania winters. Lots of covers I see online are weather "resistant". From my understanding weather resistance is less durable/ waterproof than "weather proof".

Being that I'm already battling a finicky water leak, sealing out the rain and snow is a must for when I'm storing it. Is there a go-to brand for heavy duty covers meant for long term storage?

Welcome 5 dogs1camper!

Camper covers, there are several brands and different levels of good, better and best within the brands.

A few things on the covers, Yes they need to keep water out, but they also need to breath to not get mold from condensation sweat over the winter and spring months. While you may be able to to get by with maybe 6 months of not breathing, much longer depending on how damp it is may create other issues pending the conditions.

A reality may come to be, that 3 years is about the average a camper cover may last, partly due to wind wiping. The better you do at eliminating all sharp corners that the cover goes over with some type of lining over them, is a need. The cost for those 3 years is low compared to the water and sun damage that can come from the camper not being covered. The cover is still cheaper most times then annual inside storage rental.

I installed a cover on a Sunline down at the Jersey shore last fall. This spring is had only one small tear as the lower siding catch a sharp edge and started a rip. This cover has rip stop nylon so that helped not have the rip go long distances. This is a learning, that sharp edge have to be corrected for this coming winter.

I bought and used this cover, Classic Accessories, Perama Pro. This camper may be bigger then yours, but they make other sizes. https://www.rvupgradestore.com/24-27...-p/01-0273.htm

This post from last year may help. We were discussing covers and there are a few brands that some of us bought and put on last year. https://www.sunlineclub.com/forums/f...ver-20261.html

Let us know how you make out or other questions. This is a common topic as winter is not far away.

A thought, if you know you have a leak in a certain area, you can place a small water proof tarp over the leak area, then the cover over the entire camper.

Hope this helps

John
