water pump

Can someone tell me how to access the water pump in an '01 260SR? Is it in the bottom of the closet, behind the stool in the bathroom? Do you have to access the pump from under the trailer? There appears to be no way to access it from inside the trailer. We want to try to lesson the noise of the water pump but obviously have to find it first.

Don't know if I can help. I have a 2000, 2670, and my pump is located beside the freshwater tank, directly under the refrigerator. It is accessed inside the camper, by opening a panel under the fridge that looks like a drawer. My pump is mounted on thick scraps of carpet to dampen the noise.

I would think that your pump would be under the kitchen counter area also, but I don't know. If you planning on remounting your pump to quiet it down, I would highly recommend installing a winterization kit at that time if it is not already equipped. it really simplifies adding RV antifreeze to your system when getting ready for winter.

Thanks to "Poor Man Campin'":

I just learned the water pump is behind the stool, in the bathroom, under the floor of the closet/cabinet. I need to take out the floor of the closet to get to the pump. I'm glad to hear your pump is mounted on carpet to help with noise. Hopefully, installing accumulator and securing the lines will help our noise situation. Thanks again...

While you are in there, using foam pipe insualtion helps the noise too. ( pipe slap noise).

See here.

Hope it helps

John

Sunline Fan is an unknown quantity at this point
John,

That foam insulation is a good idea. I never thought about putting it there. I guess I should consider keeping a trailer long enough to do these things . With the toy hauler, the water pump runs a lot though, so that might help with the noise. I just always assumed the thing was noisy (like the bathroom exhaust fan) and I'd just deal with it.

water pump

JohnB,

Thanks for the picture. I just bought the pipe insulation today and plan to do the project tomorrow. The end of our trailer sounds like it's about to fall off each time the water pump comes on so I'm anxious to see how much the accumulator and wrapped, secured pipes reduces the noise.

Yes mine was about to "wake the dead" as well. When it reached full pressure the slapping and banging of the hoses against the wood was like a hammer on a drum. Having a piece of flex hose on the pump on the way in and out helped as well as the foam.

It can only get better from where I started....

However I did have a problem where I sucked an air bubble into the pump on a low tank. Still with almost 5 plus gallons of water in it. Since the pump dry locked, it just kept running, and running , and running. It happened when we where not in the TT. When we came back the smell of hot motor insulation was a very scary thought. From this "learning" we always now turn the pump OFF when we leave the inside of the camper.

Out of this I also upgraded to a variable speed pump. WOW what a difference in both noise reduction and performance. Any new TT I get, I will insist on a variable speed in place of the standard pump. I went this route verses the accumulator. I also fixed the tank suction setup to not suck a air bubble with still 5 gallons of water inside. The problem is the suction fitting they used.

Sunline used the fitting in the side of the tank where the water is about 1" to the top of the fitting. So when water get's to ~less than 1" across that entire tank, the pump can suck air from above the water line. So I used the low point suction/drain port. There is even a mesh screen inside my tank in this location. Since I filter all water into my tnak, I do not worry about any sediment issues and I installed a filter/strainer on the pump suction that was not on my the original Sunline setup for reasons I have still not figured out. Shurflo recommends the inline strainer. Don't know if they just plain missed it on mine.

I'll post here in case any of this helps you or other fellow campers with water system banging.

The pump suction fix. I can now draw down to only about 1 quart left in the tank. Makes me able to go another day on a tank.

And here is the Variable spped pump upgrade.

If you want to read more on the variable spped pump upgrade, see this post Flojet pump upgrade on RV.net - for a T2499

Good luck and let us know how you made out.

John
