Watch Your Fridge Vent
Today I replaced my fridge vent cap on the roof. I must have caught a small tree branch on the last outing and I hadn't noticed until I was rummaging in one of my outside compartments and found a small puddle of water in it. I assumed that one of the plumbing fittings located in the vacinity was leaking so I pressure tested them to find the leak. No leak. So I checked the water heater which is close by. No leak. Getting frustrated I stepped back to get a larger view. Then I noticed the vent was missing a corner. The water came down the vent shaft and along the floor to the compartment where I found it. When I went up to replace it I was astonished to find that it was very brittle. The sun destroyed it in just 4 years. Just thought everyone should know that the plastic parts on the roof sure don't last long. The replacement was less than $16 at my local RV dealer, and was in stock. Oh, Sunline even filled the holes over the screws to prevent any leakage around the screw heads. Thought that was pretty neat.

Thanks for the heads up.
Yes the Sun beats these plastics to death. On my New 2004 T2499 I used 303 protectent on all the plastic from day 1 and can tell it has held up better.
The new to us 2004 T310SR, did not get this TLC by the prior owner. I have to replace all 3 roof vents and they are even under Max air covers.... In 2004 year, Sunline had a bad batch of roof vents come thru, they where brittle and the metal flanges rusted like heck real quick. I replaced my first set, all 3, under warranty on the T2499 but on the 2004 T310SR, well I got the same batch of bad ones…. but no more Sunline. So I just ordered more vents last week.
The fridge cap, I'll have to check that one too. You can tell certain plastic hold up better then others. The AC cover is made from a different material.
Thanks
John

We also use that 303 protectant and have noticed a big differeance in the way it keeps the plastic parts from becoming brittle.
THanks for the heads up though, it reminded me to crawl up there and apply a new coat.

This 303 stuff, who makes it? I'll have to look for some at the RV store right? I'd like to protect he skylight over the shower, I'll bet it's rather costly to replace.

I found the 303 stuff at an auto parts store, but I've seen it at some Wal-Marts, and every Camping World has it.

Here is a link to the 303
http://www.303products.com/tech/inde...Product_ID=428
I actually started using it on my Canoe for UV protection. Then the TT came along and everyone craved about it so I kept using it.
The shower dome, yes they take a beating too. Mine I use rubber roof cleaner no it first. Yellow stuff comes off real bad, then rinse and dry. Then I apply 303 generously over the entire dome.
And any other plastic part on the camper.
If you use Awesome cleaner on the TT, it will most likely strip off the 303, but I then put more on. I think the instructions say it is good for 3 months per treatment.
Good luck
John
