Unusual coach

Hi Everyone,

While I've already posed this question to one of my contacts to hopefully find an answer, I thought I'd post this here just in case one of you had seen it somewhere before.

Is this a Sunline?

The VIN checks out and confirms 1984, and the striping resembles that of a 1978-80. I can't say I've seen any sort of park model from that time (The latest I've seen them with sliding glass doors is about 1996). The general design of the coach appears to resemble that of the early '70's, namely the front design/shape and the rear trunk.

Jon

P.S. I'm not going to try to guess as to how the damage happened...I'm going to suspect it wasn't really an "accident" even though it must have had an insurance claim filed.

Jon:

This trailer was sitting beside MD Rt. 2 (dual lane highway) about a half mile south of Jumpers Hole Road in Pasadena, MD. "For Sale By Owner". It was sitting at about a 75 degree angle to the road with the front towards the road. The a-frame was probably 10 feet off the shoulder. One night a vehicle left the roadway and hit the trailer. It was pushed sideways about 8 -10 feet by the impact. My guess is a combination of speed, inattention, and probably DUI , as this was a straight stretch of road. I don't know much more than that, it was sitting there for sale for quite some time before it was hit.

Sorry, if I had recognized it as a Sunline I would have probably paid more attention to it.

Mack

OK, I found a satellite pic!!! Open the link and close the popup box, the trailer is under the popup. Otherwise follow Ritchie Highway down the page to the first house on the right (in trees, light gray roof. Next to house with tan roof) The white box near the road is the trailer!

An interesting side note, this book was written about this area, and the "Wishing Rocks" this book mentions are at the end of the Wishing Rock Road seen on the map!!

I have read the book and was actually involved as a firefighter in some of the incidents!

What a small world!

Here I thought it came from the woods somewhere and, well, figured alcohol was involved in some way, shape, or form.

This is what came to mind:

I'm betting that it's not a Sunline. If you look at the remains of the rear rock guard, the logo seems to be something other than Sunline. I can make out an "a" with what looks like an "L" before it, so maybe it's an old Layton?
Also, it just doesn't look like a Sunline, and if Jon doesn't recognize it, it's most likely not a Sunline.

Something smells, I was by there last night and another ancient, semi-poor condition, SOB park model is sitting where the trailer above was sitting. It is also "For Sale by Owner".

I also am suspious of the Sunline designation for the first trailer. I drove by it almost every day for months and never once thought it might be a Sunline. I don't claim to be anywhere near as knowledgeable as Jon, but it surprised me when Jon posted it.

I got a response back from Tim this afternoon and he says it was "probably a unit built for a campground rental program. They would use leftover materials".

So who knows. These insurance auctions are pretty reputable and wouldn't make up a VIN, so I'm sure it has to be a Sunline frame at the least. It just looks too old to have had something rebuilt on the frame.
