Tweety: Were you on I-81 yesterday?

I saw a Sunline, being towed by a maroon pickup yesterday and wondered if it might have been you. I saw it at 1:04pm, leaving the southbound rest area around milepost 321. I was on the train, that was east of I-81. I didn't get a very good look, but it's always nice to see a Sunline!

Hi Gary
YES that was us! We stopped for lunch at the Virginia Welcome Center and left about that time. We're in Christiansburg now visiting our son and his girlfriend for some Christmas festivities, then on to Charleston SC for some warmth! Isn't it fun when you spot a Sunline, especially one you know!

Hey Pam,

I told Gary it was probably the two of you. One of these days we will be able to meet up for a brief visit or lunch. I hope you have a good visit with your son & girlfriend. GOOD LUCK finding warmth in Charleston, I sure hope you find some.

Be careful and have a wonderful time.

Kitty

OH, I haven't forgotten about your door, my guy has just been busy.

It doesn't look like it's going to be the 70s like 2 years ago, but the after camping on a sheet of ice at Interstate Overnight Park in Christiansburg for 2 nights with lows in the teens, 50's are sounding fabulous! Wednesday it's supposed to hit 62...wooohooo! I think of you guys every time we drive by. It just seems like we're always in a rush to get down to the kids.
Steve said to tell Gary that while he was jogging he got a cheap thrill - He saw Union Pacific engine 9132 on a Norfolk Southern freight train going through Christiansburg. The kids were fascinated that Gary "drives a train" and wanted to know what he's hauling such a short distance.

Nice catch on the UP power!!!

As far as what I haul... I'm currently assigned to our "Sandman" train. I haul tons and tons of sand, from the sand mine in Gore, VA. The day I saw you, I had a short sand train.. Only 1,248 tons of sand. That's 2,496,000lbs of sand... It's used to make everything from fiberglass insulation, to plate glass windows and beer bottles..

Did the UP locomotive look anything like this:

Well you made Steve's morning...he says that is the exact engine he saw. But it had a little sign on the side that said "on lease to Norfolk Southern".

Gary,

Did you see Jay Leno last night? Hope your train didn't look like this. Check at about 1:50.
