To DRAIN or not to DRAIN...that is my ????

The subject of my using the low point drain valves came about recently. John B and others were kind enough to elaborate on the function of said valves.

It was also noted during these discusssions that the topic of draining the water system as a maintainence step had not been a subject of discussion so far on SOC.

So here goes an effort to discover the worth of periodic draining of the water system of your camper.

I see the frequency of draining, the proper methods, potential drawbacks and cautions as all factors worthy of discussion.

I personally know very little about this subject, beyond the fact that yes I have water in my trailer and I like having it be fresh and pressurized and always working and never smelly or strange tasting. I don't want it to ever be an unreliable entity...what's next?

Bob...

Bob, I haven't camped in my Solaris yet (still re-fitting), but I drain the tank of my pop up at the end of every trip and refill before the next. Two weeks is the longest I've left water in during storage between trips. No water issues in 5 years.

Bob

This is a very good topic and each of us may appoach this differently and for different reasons.

A question that goes along with this is, do you drink water from the on board water system, brush your teeth, wash your face?

If you do not drain your system, what lead you to this decision?

If you do drain the system often or all the time, what lead you to this decsion?

I drink the water and use it for washing, teeth brushing, etc.

I drain it 'cause if it's not in there, it can't develop problems. I realize treated city water has a long "shelf life" but draining seems so easy, I figured "why not?"
