Sunline Sole

Our local dealer has a really nice Sunline Sole for sale. Does anyone remember what the deal was with the Sole line? It doesn't look like it was meant to be a family line because this one is designed for 2, based on the table size and the fact that it has only 2 swivel chairs. I know they only made it for a couple of years.

Here is what I found out on it (From Jones rv). According to this site, the line was geared for the first time buyer. It has some good info

I am sure Jon knows more about it, however!

Hi Pam and Kathryn,

The Sole was a entry level model basically introduced to save Sunline's butt. They were not doing so well in 2003, causing the company to be split and the "Sunline Acquisition Company" sold off to private investors (the same dumb-*****, minus Dale Zimmerman, that caused the company to fail).

The new Sole was introduced part way through the 2004 model year to bring in the "lower income" customers. I don't know if that's the way to put it, but it basically catered to the same people who would normally buy Fleetwoods, Dutchmens, etc. The Sole was a Solaris with all the options taken away, for a lower price. It obviously didn't take off as it was dumped after the 2005 model year.

I've always looked at the Sole as an answer to the banks' question: Do something or die. When it first came out, I asked LaRue if this was going to be along the same lines as a SunRay or late model Saturn's. She said no, it was an entry level model geared for young families. They produced only 3 models of the Sole, the 25BH, the 25RL, and the 27BHSS, with the 27 having a couch and dinette slide.

Pam, the one you looked at was the 25RL, which was the only one without bunks. The bunk models seemed better laid out to me. The 25RL must have been designed for a couple only because, I agree, it can't sleep a whole lot. I was always disappointed with the lack of window on the side in the left rear corner by the chair. It always seemed very dark there, which is something Sunline is not known for.

Hope this helped,
Jon

Thanks Jon. I only saw it online, so didn't notice the lack of window. I sent the link to DH who immediately said "It doesn't have enough windows." Not that we're looking to replace QUEtSE at the moment anyway. I just have this habit of checking the Stoltzfus website...And thanks for calling the investors what I have been thinking for months !

Pam,

You're welcome! I've been thinking the same thing, if not worse! I, too, check General RV's website daily, if not multiple times each day.

Pam & Jon,

I remember looking at the Sole's when they came out at our dealership.

Both my wife and I thought the quality of the trailer was well below the typical Sunline quality.

We were not impressed by them at all. They definitely looked the part of competing with the lower end trailers.

Our first Sunline was a Saturn, which at the time was Sunline’s lower end. It still had the Sunline quality workmanship, just less frills. Before we looked at a Sole', I thought it was going to be like the Saturn’s. After looking at it I realized it wasn’t.
