Started making my 08 reservations today

I can hardly wait to get my Sunline out and go camping. Been looking at my work schedule and making my plans.
I hope to get a couple weekend trips in before the kids are done school in June. Right now we are planing on camping fathers day weekend. I hope to get over to Fish Creek near Saranac Lake NY. I have heard its a very nice place to camp.
Our big trip this year will be back to Letchworth the end of July. We will be spending 10 days there again. I was looking at sites last night but did not make any reservations. Logged on this am and could not believe how many were reserved overnight. Made mine today, this year we will have a 30amp site so we can run A/C if needed. A couple nights last year it would have been nice to run it. We are thinking about running down to Allegany SP for a couple nights before we go to Letchworth. We have friends that camp down there and we have always wanted to go.
Well back to stareing out the window at the snow and thinking about camping.

Happy Camping

Hi Bob,

It’s been years (maybe 15+ years) since we’ve been to Allegany SP. We used to like the Red House area better than the Quaker area. But a lot can change in 15+ years.

Not sure if you know, but Allegany SP would be ~3 hr drive from Letchworth SP.
Enjoy your stay a Letchworth, it’s a beautiful park and it’s been way too long since we've camped there.

I hear you about making reservations, we’ve already have 4 week-ends / campgrounds reserved for this summer. Can’t wait, we typically start mid April, as soon as the parks start opening. April doesn’t come soon enough for us.

Hutch

We have 3 weekends reserved so far. One at Ives Run, one at Outflow Campground, and one at Buttonwood - all in PA. We usually start in late April or early May. We had talked about going somewhere this weekend, but it's looking like snow / sleet / rain, so I guess that's not happening. I was driving home today from a visit to our daughter's in Virginia and there were ALOT of campers heading south on I81. Guess they're trying to beat the storm. I was SO envious.

Bob,

We'll be at Rollins on Father's Day weekend. Let me know if you reserve at Fish Creek and we'll be sure to look you up. Check out www.fishcreekpond.com for more info on that CG.

Hutch, we're anxiously awaiting the ADK M&G in September and this year I want the 25 cent tour of your coach and all it's upgrades.

I saw several RV's on I-81 also today but near Watertown, NY. Most were south bound but one was going north, possibly heading home. We're on the down hill side of our non-camping season, 86 days until Fish Creek opens.

Mike

We got the first weekend in May @ Old Mill Stream in Lancaster, PA (Kids got to do the opener at Dutch Wonderland ) and the Meet - n - Greet at Buttonwood in June. Will be making a couple at Jellystone in Quarryville, PA in June and July soon... (Kids want to do their Birthdays there, humm....I'm starting to see a pattern in our camping )

We'll start probably in early April, but if the weather breaks any, the itch to go is getting pretty strong

BTW: Happy Fourth Anniversary mdfiregal

Hutch, where do you go mid April? In New York? There's still snow! We've found sites open on the 1st of May each year.

We've already made reservations for the major holidays and at Nick's Lake so far. Unless we want a specific site we just wing it the rest of the summer weekends and just go.

We've got ressies for 5 trips so far. RI and ME in May, VT in June, MO in July, and NH in Sept. We're hoping for at least three additional weekends this summer. Hopefully one to PA or MD and a couple of local trips.
I'm really getting antsy, and I'm sure the RV show this weekend is gonna make it worse! Gotta go camping!!!!!!

We're anxiously awaiting the ADK M&K also. We'll be more than happy to show you around our trailer this time, I know you ask last summer when we were there and I forgot about it - sorry, I'll make sure I remember this summer.

Paul,

Some of the SP in WNY and most of the private CGs open mid April - April 12th this year I think. We'll go to 4 Mile Creek or Golden Hill. Both right on Lake Ontario. Last year we were at 4 Mile Creek and there was still ice on Lake Ontario that went out about 200 yards.

Bobo turned us on to Golden Hill, it's a gurgious park with an old lighthouse on the property. Though I think Golden Hill may not open until later in April, can't remember. It's been a tradition for the past 7-8 years that we go to Southwoods the week-end before Memorial Day Week-end.

Memorial week-end we'll be in Kitty's neck of the woods camping and visiting my parents. Then there's the Eastern & ADK M&G and we have a couple outings planed with other SOC members, and then we turn the trip to pick our daughter from college into a camping trip also - so I guess we have 5 or 6 officially scheduled and 3-4 tentively scheduled so far. Summer's still young, plenty of time for more trip planning

So far, all reservations we have made are in NY State Parks. If you want 30 amp service or a prime waterfront site, you have to get it now.

We are going the Golden Hill SP on the shoreline of Lake Ontario for 10 days in July and Labor Day Weekend. Westcott Beach SP near Watertown the following weekend, then Cedar Point SP near Clayton, the rest of the week. All waterfront to relax by.

We want to go to Niagara Falls on the Canadian side mid May, but that is hinging on our work schedules.

JohnB is on a distinguished road
We have 6 specific campouts on certain sites reserved so far. If you after a specific spot, it is plan ahead for sure. Some need to be 5 to 6 months in advance.

However we do camp often here in Ohio where we only need to stay 2 weeks ahead on the reservations. Seems everyone waits until the last minute. We book 2 weeks out on a State Park and the park is only 20% full. Then come Friday night, it is filled solid. If you go 1 week out, it can be slim pickings. So we have many parks we go to and many “favorite” sites in each to pick from. We rate them on a scale of 1 to 5 to help the internet reservations guess a site. We just ask, which direction this weekend, North, east, south or west and go for it.

Now hearing folks waiting until April, oh my. How do you deal with the camping withdrawal…. Every so often during the winter we have to wait it out about 6 weeks or more and it is grueling. And in times like those, it is now cyber camping here on the forums to help offset the fever.

Happy Camping to all when ever you get out.

John

We've got 24 days booked at Fish Creek Ponds SP (near Tupper Lake and Saranac Lake in the Adirondacks); 10 in mid-June and 14 in mid-August.

And we're planning on 3 nights (at least) at the ADK M&G in Old Forge, NY at Nick's Lake SP.

Plus there'll be weekends at Letchworth and Sampson SP's down here in the Finger Lakes region of western NY State. Those are "take the grandkids camping without their parents" weekends.

If time and schedules permit, we'll try a couple of new (to us) places around the area too.

mbart5fan thanks for the link to Fish Creek, that website makes picking a spot real easy. What an incredible looking camp ground.

Yes stop by, I will let you know our site # when I get reservations made.

As I sit here waiting on the Snow Storm I made my reservations for Fish Creek. Winter Storm warnings with 10" to 14" of snow expected.
We will be on site 138 Thurs through Sun so if you get a chance stop by.

I was on the fish creek forum the other day and Dave has posted a beta guide to Rollins Pond http://fishcreekpond.com/rollinsguide.html

First Trip of the Year

We'll be in New Bern, NC, March 23 through March 28. The next scheduled trip is Buttonwood but we are having lots of discussions on where else we want to go. Too many choices, so little time.

I'll be in Walterboro, SC at New Green Acres Campground hosting the 4th annual Open Roads Singles Get to Gether. Also the Sunline GTG in Mexico, PA and from there it's an open road for me to who knows where or when, kinda depends on moms health this year.

We have had reservations made since December and January....most of our camping is local in state parks, so ya need to make them reservations early. DD called last night and wants to change one of the "family" trips to the week before - BUT - can't do as there is "no room at the inn" so we keep the week that we have and make the best of it.

Since I work weekend during the summer, it is hard to get off BUT the owner of the motel asked me to work for him...so I kinda tell him I need off one weekend a month!
Works for both of us this way!

We got dumped on again last night, but not nearly as bad as predicted - this snow has to be going away soon!

THINK SPRING - I want my TT back in my yard - so we can start on some of those neat mods we've seen all winter!
