Soon to be an SOB

Never thought we would be saying this, but we will be giving up our Sunny for another brand. Our Grand Design Reflection will be coming off the production line this week, 6 weeks earlier than they told us when we ordered it. We are excited but also a little apprehensive to give up something that has been so good to us for 11 years.

Hi Mike and Roz

Yes, they are for sure bitter sweet times giving up a great camper. A lot of good memories there. New campers (or different) are always good times! Lots of excitement for sure. And then there is setting up house in the new floor plan...

I'm sure history will repeat itself like it has so many times before. You put everything where you think it will go on day 1. Then come the end of the first year and, well you re-arranged it about 3 times... to find just the right spot. Have a great time doing this too.

Let us know how the Grand Design works out. I have heard a lot of good about them and they seem to have their act together, just never been in one yet. We need a few good brands out there to keep on the go to list.

Just so you know, please stick around. You are always welcome here on SOC.

Best of luck to you on your new camper!

Thanks

John

Hi John
We have been looking at Grand Design for 2 years. I have been under, on top, and through every inch of their trailers. They went to the top of our list. When we found the model we liked best, it had a number of issues that were just dumb thinking on someones part. We talked to some reps about the things we thought were not thought out so well. Low and behold they came out with a new model this year that was almost identical to the first model we looked at, so we went to look at one. They changed everything we talked to them about. So they do listen to their customers.

Congratulations on your Grand Design! We traded our Open Range Roamer TT for a Solitude in March and could not be happier. It is the only brand that reminded us so much of our past Sunline. Where did you buy yours? We bought from Delmarve RV in DE as that is the closest dealer to us. So far, so good!

Today was a bit sad as we removed everything from the sunny. Saturday morning she will be going to the dealer as a trade in on our new trailer.

If only we could afford a new tow vehicle, we would've loved to give your 264SR a new home! Good luck with your new Grand Design!

Yes Mike, good used Sunny's go fast. There still is not much out there that compares to your camper.

So how is the new camper?

New trailer is good. Took her on her maiden trip last weekend. Only thing we had to fix was hardware adjustment to hold a few drawers shut. She is a big one at 38ft and just shy of 11,000lbs

Hi Mike,

Glad your 1st trip went well.

Yup, your heavier springs on the F-350 come in handy with this bigger trailers. We managed to load our to just under 10,000 lb with a 1,600# loaded TW when we need to haul fresh water and bikes on the tongue rack to camp. Our GWVR is 10K.

38 feet, OK that will be an adjustment in backing into the campsite from your T264SR. When we went from the T2499 to the T310SR I had to sort out the backing up turning radius of the truck and the camper. Being 32 feet long on the TT with the F350 CC, short bed, 4 x 4, what I came up with to get into an angled or 90 deg camp site entrance, drive 8 feet from the down stream edge of the site pad to the rear TT axle. Then start backing up and crank the wheel hard and it will start going into the site right on the pad. Having the 4 wheel drive on the Fords helps turn sharper once you figure out the extra length you have to overshoot the site pad by. I predict your TT will need a little more then the 8 feet. Maybe 9 to 9.5 ft. you will have to experiment with it.

Good luck and have fun. New campers are always exciting. You will master it in short order if you have not already.

John
