Slide windows

When did they do away with the crank jalousie windows on TTs? I notice the newer ones have smaller "slide" windows and only half opens. I would think that would make for poor ventilation. When and why did they change them - anyone know?

My little SunLine has the crank Jalousies which gives plenty of ventilation and the rain doesn't come in.

1997 sticks in my head because the 2653 for that year had the large dinette window in a slider form, and in '96 it was glass on the top half and a two window jalousie on the bottom half. The jalousie style stayed aroudn in the other windows, but they got rid of most of them around 2000. They did get rid of most of the jalousies on the DS a while back because they interfered with too many awnings, so sliders are best there.

They still used a modified form of jalousie up through the end, I have them on the entire ODS of my coach. They are just one pane that cranks out, the bottom half. The top half is stationary. I think they went to this because there's less chance of leaks and less moving parts that could break. There's also the added benefit of cleaner lines on the outside and a cheaper cost.

The entire industry has been moving away from Jalousies for probably these exact reasons. I have a friend who has an '03 or '04 Montana Fiver and it has ONE jalousie in the whole trailer, and that's on the very back window. 3/4 of the window is solid glass with a little double jalousie in the bottom center.

I think you're right, Jon. Our '96 has jalousie windows, but the '97's I've seen have sliders. They give a much cleaner line, and they also seal better. Jalousies are notoriously breezy windows, although I have no problem with ours.

I’m really only familiar with the ’98 and newer Sunline models, but what I noticed with all our Sunlines ('98, '99, & 05 models), was that they only had slide windows in places where the window was located under the awning. Any other place they used jalousie windows.

I thought this was intentional and I really liked it because it allowed us to keep both the slide and jalousie windows open if it was raining. The slide windows were protected from the rain entering by being under the awning and the jalousie windows by their design.

At least that's a theory according to Hutch, which has nothing to do with your original question.

While quite uncommon, I was just thinking about the fact that my 1550 had an awning, and it would have covered the window. That coach had jalousie windows everywhere, except for by where the awning would mount, and it was a partial jalousie. The other part didn't slide though, it was just a stationary piece of glass that had a tendency to collect a lot of stickers

jalousie windws = what we call crank outs..... After i saw the pic of Sunline fans little camper it clicked....

To add to the pile of where these crack outs are and are not

On a 2004 T2499, there are 5 of them. 2 in rear windows, 1 over the counch, one over the sink and one in the bed room.

On a 2004 T310SR, There are 5

2 in the rear windows, 1 over the counch in the slide, one near the kitchen table in the slide, 1 over the sink in the kitchen under the awning.

Never gave it much thought before this post which ones were where.

The older TTs also had more and larger windows than the newer TTs. And on the newer TTs only half of those windows themselves open, part being solid glass. If the jalousies are "leaky" where cold air is concerned it wouldn't bother those of us who don't winter camp. If we decided to winter camp we could always put those removable "shrink" plastic covers over them.

My old Sunline pick-up camper had all jalousie windows and wish they used sliders. Many scars on top of my rapidly balding head were caused by those windows.

OK Thanks. I love the interior. Yours is much nicer inside than mine. Someone removed all the curtains and valances and painted the bathroom and cabin an off white. I made new curtains for it, but not valances. We removed the upper bed since we have no children to go camping with us. We'll store clothing up there.

What is the speaker looking thing on the wall of the bath?

With the shower, sink, toliet etc all being one room, ever have any water floor issues?

It's actually a light fixture. I guess they mounted it there in hopes that moisture would get sucked out of the vent and wouldn't hang around the fixture, compared to if it were on the ceiling.

BTW, the switch is a small slider on the bottom right.
