I think that you're OK as long as you have a robust enough power source that you don't get a big voltage drop. For example, I would not run a 12-gauge extension cord a hundred feet from the house. But plugged into a correctly wired 30 amp outlet, you should be good to go. Checking the battery is always wise, but the charge function in most of the converters I've had is generally not powerful enough to boil out a battery.
