Hi Gregory,

Can you get us the make and model of the fridge? We are not sure if yours is original or has been changed. The model numbers are inside the fridge compartment on the side on a sticker if this is an original RV fridge to the Sunline.

Also tell us some more about how you noticed that the freezer is working but the fridge compartment is not? On the standard RV fridge that is not a common thing. The same cooling coil runs the freezer and the fridge and the 2 areas are not independently adjustable in temp.

Did you measure the temperature in the fridge compartment with a thermometer? For the freezer, you can put and open small plastic tub of water in and see if it freezes overnight.

Also tell us, has the fridge worked OK before and is now acting up? Trying to find out some background to help better. If this is the first time you ever used the fridge or have been using this one for a long time.

Does the problem make any difference if you are running on LP gas or just on 120 VAC electric?

Hope this helps

John

The Fridge is now operating on Electric but when i wasn't using electric it wasn't working with propane. I had no battery power at all when trying to get it to run on propane.

OK, This is where the model number comes in so we know exactly which fridge you have.

The newer fridges require 12 volts DC power to run on LP gas mode. While the gas provides the heat to make the fridge boiler work, they use 12 volts DC from the camper battery to run the controls on the fridge for both electric mode and LP gas mode. Just when on electric, it does not use LP gas, it runs an electric heating element to run the boiler area in place of the gas burner.

To run with no 120 VAC shore power available, you need a well charged 12 volt battery on the camper and it will run a good long time on gas. When you plug into 120 VAC shore power, the onboard power converter creates all the needed 12 volts DC to run the fridge so it can run with or without a battery.

This much I can say not knowing the model number, if in times past you ran on gas mode and never had to light a gas pilot light on the fridge, just turned the button on for LP gas mode and it worked, then the fridge uses 12 volts DC to run the controls, gas valve and gas igniter. If you had to light a pilot light or snap a gas lighter to get the fridge going, then you would have one of the older all gas fridges and may not need the 12 volt battery.

With yours being an 2000 Sunline, it might be new enough to have a RM2652 Dometic fridge in it. And if so, that model requires the 12 volts DC from the battery.

Does this help explain why your fridge was not working on gas mode?

Usually if only the freezer is working that's not a really good sign. "Working" does not mean it's really getting cold only the freezer is and it's probably not keep things below freezing it just feels cold. Mind you these things take hours to get cold and the freezer is the first to get cool.

Hi John.
I have a 2001 T320SR that we bought a couple of years ago. I was thumbing through the forum and noticed the safety recall on the dometic refrigerator. I checked ours and it fell into the model serial number group. So I called our local RV dealer and they are checking with the OEM to see if the recall has been completed.
By the way this site is great.

Roger

I'm not sure, but I think you can tell if the recall was done by looking in the outside compartment. If I remember correctly, the recall involved putting in some metal shielding near the burner.

Yes, Jim is correct.

Pre-recall this is what a RM2652 looks like at the gas burner area.

After the recall is done, it looks like this. They added sheet metal heat shields around the gas burner area and 2 new heat safety sensors.

Thank you! I will check it out in the morning. Ok the suspense was to much. Mine does not have the additional safety switches or the fuseable link.

This is the picture of my refrigerator. It doesn't appear to have any of the upgrades.

Thanks JohnB.
I haven't heard back from the RV dealer yet but will post back that way everyone will know if they run into this issue what they might be up against.

Thanks for the info. I see my RM2652 hasn’t had the recall done.

I’m might try to find a service center as opposed to an RV dealer. Probably be hard to get an appointment at an RV dealer unless you know someone.

Johnnybgood the recall is only for certain model refrigerators within a serial number group. The RV dealer was more than willing to assist in contacting the OEM and will install the modifications as required.

All,
Update on the recall. I just received an email from our local RV shop and Dometic is shipping a kit to them. Once received they will contact me to have our tt brought over for them to install.

Spent about an hour at the RV shop yesterday afternoon having the recall work completed on the 320sr. Found out in the process that it wasn't working on propane. But that is fixed now. Seems the ignitor wire terminal was loose on the ignitor block. The RV tech troubleshot it quick and tightened the terminal with a little squeeze of the needle nose pliers.
