We have used our 1989 Saturn for three seasons and have never used our propane heater. Now someone interested in it asked if the heater worked. It is a closed system and has a push button igniter. I can't tell if it is lighting, but I see no signs that it is and the blower is sending out non-heated air. At least the blower came on. I had the temp way up. I hear that there is a sail switch and another safety switch somewhere. Not sure how to check these out or even how to remove the heater. Obviously I have to disconnect the propane line. Is this thing just supposed to slide out after that?

Hi,

Can you post the make/model number of the furnace?

And ideally a few pics of it? We can help better if we know which model you have.

Since the blower is running, that is a good sign. The older campers pending the model, had a manual lighting furnace or an electronic ignition. We need to know which you have to help give better answers on what may be wrong and why it is not lighting.

About removing them, again this depends on the vintage and the model number. The really old ones had an heat chamber air intake/exhaust tube that would rust into the heater making getting it out from the inside of the camper complex. The slightly newer ones all slide out from the outside, again all furnace model dependent.

Hope this helps

John

The older heaters fans ran as soon as the t stat was set (pre purge) unfortunately they continued to weather it iit or not. So it is very possible the propane supply line is full of air that doesn't burn well. Turn on your stove burners and let them run for awhile than try to light it. If it's full of air it's going to take awhile, continue to push the clicker until you hear it light. Hold the button down once it lights for 20 sec. or so you may have to do this more than once. There is a flame sensor that has to get hot before it will stay lit.

Sorry, been camping in the new camper and away from the feed. The furnace has a clicker and not a pilot that lights by direct flame. I did turn the stove burners on for awhile first. I have to do that sometimes th light the water heater. I dont hear or see any flame coming on. I will try to attach pics.

Here is an owners manual for a 78/80 series Hydroflame. You have to be logged in to down load it.

https://www.sunlineclub.com/forums/d...o=file&id=5566

Since you said yours has a manual igniter, go to page 3 for Pilot ignition models

It seems your first issue is, getting the pilot to light or knowing it is lit. I have not seen one of these older furnaces up close to know if you can see the pilot. We do have members with these older furnaces who will hopefully confirm how you know the pilot is lit and staying on.

Hope this helps

John

I have the same furnace you do. Turn the green knob to the pilot position and push in on the knob and hold it down. Then push the metal Piezo spark ignitor repeatedly til you hear the pilot light. I said hear, because the viewing hole is in such an awkward place, I usually listen for the pilot , because I can't really see it unless my head is positioned in the perfect spot for viewing. I usually light all the other appliances on gas first to make sure as much air is out of the lines as possible, otherwise it can take a lot of sparking to get to light. Then hold the knob down for an additional 30 seconds or so before you release it and turn it the rest of the way to on. Then, when you turn up the thermostat, the blower will come on and the main burner should light so you get heat.

I don't think you have to reset the heater, the newer ones ones if they did not light you had to turn the thermostat off and start all over again might be worth a try.

Ah yes, I remember the old days of craning my neck to try and see that pilot light.
