Question about my Sunline T-2053-AC Drainage

Hi all, Just joined your community.

I'm hoping someone can help with my Sunline. I can not locate where the AC drains. I have a bad mold smell inside and I thought possibly the drain is blocked. I can also be reached at 646.303.7079.

Thanks for the help! Best, David

Welcome David,

If you mean the roof top AC unit, (air conditioner) drains, they are up in the roof top unit above the roof line outside. See here, there are 2 white plastic U shaped drains, one each side.

If those drains do plug up, or the inside coil freezes up, water normally drips down inside the camper from the AC mesh filter area on the ceiling. You would know the AC is not draining correctly. Does this happen?

The moldy/mildew smell can come from other things in the camper. Tell us some about the smell to help better.

What model year is your T-2053 camper?

When did you first notice the smell?

Does the smell only come when the AC unit is on?

Where in the camper do you notice the smell the strongest?

Does the smell get better on cooler days/mornings, and get worse when it gets real hot outside?

How long has the smell been going on?

Anything else you can tell us you noticed about the smell?

We can help better with some more info. I do not want to jump to conclusion on what the problem may be until we know some more about your camper.

Hope this helps.

John

Hi David,

What you are describing points to a water infection in the camper. It may be in the attic, the walls, floor and some part of all of them at the same time. When the water damage gets bad enough you start to smell it, it could have been ongoing for a few years. The leak or most likely multiple leaks, can being from failing sealants on the roof, and or putty tape sealant failures at the camper corner moldings, a window, cargo door or any other opening in the siding. Water seeps in over time and accumulates. Often they are not a gusher leak, but seeping in slowly. The water is trapped and can't leak out and has to try and evaporate out. But new water keeps coming if the leak is not sealed off.

Many times you do not see signs of water damage in the living space, the way the camper is made. The vinyl wall and ceiling paper acts as a good water barrier holding the water trapped in the wall and ceiling. When the wood rots enough, then the vinyl paper starts to show signs of rippling due to the water.

There are some ways to confirm you have water damage, how much you have and where it is located. The best way is to acquire a pinless moisture meter and scan the ceiling, walls and floor for moisture trapped inside them. It is a non destructive scan. This post talks about a brand and type I have used and it has yet to be wrong about what it can find. https://www.sunlineclub.com/forums/f...per-17613.html

The meters now cost approx $45 and we can help on how to use it and what the numbers mean.

There are a few ways to remove some certain screws or parts of the camper to take a look and then put back in place. This method screw check method is not as accurate as the moisture meter, but it will tell big picture if you have the water problem.

Once you confirm how big or small the problem is, you most likely have to make a choice on what to do. Some choices are: to totally fix it, patch it, stop the existing leaks, sell it or leave it as it is until it gets to the point of not usable to name a few.

We can help with the "how to" on all of those choices from total rebuild to sell it. If you have basic wood tools, know how to do home wood repairs, the will and time to do the work yourself, you can do the work with our help. We also have several posts with members doing total restorations to see if this is what you want to take on.

Hope this helps. Feel free to ask more questions on this.

John
