Puppies & brakes
Boy, those nearly 30 year old brakes on our T-1550 work great (after a bunch of time and effort). We towed it over a couple hundred miles Friday, camped, then took off Saturday morning to go further west. I get out on the road and notice my brake controller says "not connected." So I pulled into the closest parking lot, got out my Craftsman "lay-on-the-ground" mat, and immediately found a ground to the right brakes disconnected. Turns out our puppy was attached to the trailer with one of those long plastic covered cables when we were parked, and was continually wrapping himself around stuff and getting stuck, no matter how much he tugged. I'm positive that's how my ground got disconnected. I travel with tools and spare hardware and had the stuff to fix it on the spot. Off we went with great brakes all the way there and back!

I called them yesterday on the way home with the T-1550, talked a while, sent a bunch of pics when I got home, have not heard back. I got messages from them 3 different ways, and they're in TX!

While it could be from the dog cable, I had brake wires come apart on me that I found, and I don't have a dog cable there. In my case, I think a rock or something must have been kicked up and broke the wires loose.
It is scary when you loose trailer brakes though!

I noticed it from the controller before I noticed it was braking harder Jon. It's only a T-1550, not too heavy anyways. Still, given how great these old brakes work, I headed for the 1st parking lot I could find, in Red Creek. Friendly lady that owned a small grocery store across the street sauntered over, offered to help, and we talked a while. Kinda cool.
This is a connection I made to get the trailer brakes working I when we first got the trailer. It was my connection Buckley broke. I really hope to buy a new axle next year with modern electric brakes, and not dropped 4" like this one is. These original brakes are NLA, and the brake assemblies are not easily replaceable. Still, they have worked great so far. We wanted A/C 1st!
