One more outing this year

We are planning on going out to Hickory Hill in Bath NY Columbus day weekend. I took Friday and Monday off. The kids have those days off so we figured we could get one more outing. Hannah will only miss one swim team practice.

Hopefully our TT will be back from the welder (fixing the bent frame) and we'll be prepping it to be put in storage on Saturday!!!

Wow... I keep forgetting many of you live far enough north where you cannot camp year-round.

Don't get me wrong, it gets cold here. We camped last January in middle Georgia at High Falls State Park and it SNOWED. The temps got down to 17 at night and crawled up around 40 later in the day. Some of the snow stayed on the ground, especially in the shady areas of the campground.

That's about as cold as it gets down here, but it doesn't STAY that cold so we don't need winterize.

We'll be camping at a County Park campground on Lake Talquin (in north Florida) at the end of this month and then over Thanksgiving weekend at High Falls State Park with our Georgia Campers group... one of them is having their 50th birthday party.

We're going to try winter camping this year and see how we like it. We'll winterize, but use our porta potti that's left from our popup days; dish pans; water jugs etc. There aren't many campgrounds open around here in the winter, but French Creek State Park and Old Mill Stream are both open year round. I hope we enjoy it, because we SURE get cabin fever in the winter. We also have a longer trip to James Island County Park in SC planned for over the Christmas holidays.

Just this morning I was thinking that I might as well go ahead and winterize Sunny. With moms health, I can't go camping, so I guess I might as well put Sunny down for a LONG nap

I will be out working in him on a few projects that I've got planned.

Just two more trips this year. This weekend, Amy and I are trying out a newly opened campground here in western NY. It is called Red Rock Ponds, located just west of the Village of Holley. In the 1800's, the Erie Canal allowed transport of a local stone called Medina Red Sandstone, creating several small quarries. Having closed down in the early 1900's and letting mother nature take over, it has turned into ponds and tall hardwood trees. The owners have taken advantage of this and created a nicely spaced campground. I will write a review when we get back.

The following weekend is at Southwoods Resort in Byron, NY. A favorite of Hutch's and us also. While there, we will give the black and grey tanks a good flushing and drain the water system. When we get home, I will winterize the trailer, park it next to the garage and we are going to tarp it this year to see if it helps eliminate the snow and ice build up on the roof.

Hey there now, none of this put it away type talk .

Get that Tweety fever

As long as there is no snow or ice you are towing thru, and it get’s up above freezing during the day, Sunline winter camping is Great!. No bugs, no crowds and almost an entire State park to your self. We only see about 1 maybe 2 others out.

We are heading back out this weekend. Yeh can’t wait. Only 30 minutes from home, but still great. Have to grand kid sit until daughter comes to pick him up at the CG and have supper with us. The beauty of 2 state parks in less then 20 miles from home.

Go Tweety Go

John

Bobo, We should look into Red Rock Ponds. It sounds like it's not that far from us.

We are also heading out to our final weekend of the year. I can't believe it is over. But we are looking forward to a beautiful fall weekend at RB Winter SP, our regular stomping ground. The leaves should be great, and we'll have the pumpkins glowing for this trip. I think I enjoy fall camping the most. We'll hit the road after school tomorrow.

Hope everyone has a great weekend out there.

Sorry to hear so many of you are winterizing their campers. I don't mean to sound boastful, but here in central Florida we're looking forward to great camping weather for the next 6 or 7 months. As a former resident of central New York, I can sympathize with those that deal with cold ,snow and icy roads. I hope to see my fellow Sunline club members at a future M&G.

We are headed out this weekend as well. We are staying at an rv park near Perry Georgia. The 'main event' will be the nearby Georgia National State Fair. My purpose in going is to take pictures at the fair.

We hope to take some trips throughout the winter. Generally, I winterize using the 'air method' so we can try to take advantage of those occaisonal spells of good weather during the winter.

Later,
ParTimCmpr

It's getting pretty chilly here and we have reservations to go camping next weekend at Pine Grove Furnace State Park...total dry camping. Tweety is sort of winterized - no pink stuff yet. I think we'll take water along. BUT...I could probably use a JohnB winter camping tutorial? I feel like I'm going to forget something

Tweety, you will do just fine. The TT offers so much that it is hard to forget something you can’t work around with a little thought. Use to do tent camping with the Scouts down to 0 deg F. several times. Now there you have to have the right ground insulator under you, the right bedding/sleeping bag, the right cloths to sleep in, a “small tent” and I mean small like only a 2 person, not a nylon hotel, and oh yes 1 very important thing. Vent the tent or else it will snow inside….. Had Scouts prove the theory. I told them but do teens listen….??? So they woke up with ½ “ of snow, frozen breathing condensation, on top of their sleeping bags… They did learn though. I’ll never forget that…

You can’t forget much from home but do, do this. Crack open the roof vent in the opposite end of the trailer from the bed. And when I mean crack at least a good ¾” to 1” lift of the cover from fully closed on the 1 non hinged end. If you do not, the walls and cabinets and everything else inside will be soaking wet when you wake up. I know it looks like a lot of heat is going out that vent, and yes some does, but the moisture inside also gets out. If not, you will not forget the next time… Ask me how I know this… Just because you know to do this, the teenager in me does not always remember….

Have tried 1/4", 1/2" open and it is not enough. Still get too much water left inside

Go have fun and report back. If you are going to do a lot of winter camping this year, I highly recommend doing the shrink window plastic on all the windows. I did this last year after Eman tipped us off and it works great. And it came off this spring with no problem other then a little simple green wipe on the alum channels I stuck it too. It makes a big difference for not a lot of money.

Good luck and Go Tweety GO .

Well, guess I have to jump in here and report that we will also be taking our last trip for this year--however, it will be 4 1/2 months long! Leaving for Florida around Nov. 10th and won't return until April..but I will be checking the forum daily for anything new and exciting happening in here. I must say, it has been pretty slow lately--guess it's the end of the season for most.
Tweety--you don't need to use a porta potti at French Creek--their dump should be open and all you have to do for flushing is take a couple of milk jugs to use..and also, you can just camp near the bathrooms.
Kitty--I wish you the best with your mom..but remember, you can't ruin your own health and well being and she may end up happier and more at ease in a new surrounding--my mother in law did.
Richard--we will be at The Oaks in Bushnell for Feb. and March (wonderful place!)..we get into Leesburg every once in awhile to your great Chinese Buffet!!
To the rest of you fellow Sunliners--Happy Holidays--I will look out for you down the road! Watch for our 2653 on I-95! Janalee and John
