New Tow Vehicle

Yesterday we retired the Expedition as our tow vehicle and brought home a 2010 Ford F-150 Super Crew King Ranch. Max tow rating is 9500 pounds which provides 900 pounds more of capacity and best of all, we can carry the generator and gas cans, etc., in the bed of the truck. We still need to get a tonneau cover. The truck was used with 7000 miles on it so the savings over the MSRP were substantial. The truck has the 157 inch wheelbase so with the Equalizer, towing the North Trail should be a breeze. Loaded weight on the NT is 6900 pounds. One thing we've noticed is that the turning radius is much different on the F-150 so we have some "relearning" to do.

The NT is at the dealer for a couple of minor warranty items and for the dealer to look it over for roof issues or whatever before winter. Now we need to call the dealer and tell them the Equalizer will need to be adjusted prior to bringing the NT home.

Santa came early to our house this year.

RV/Camping fever will be hard to handle all winter while we wait for spring. Hopefully we can get a trip to Myrtle Beach in March but that depends on my work schedule as Marshall is off for spring break. At least we can look at the TT and TV in the driveway and start making plans for next year. And just think, the long winter will give us lots of time to buy things for the new TV.

Congrats Diane & Marshall! That is a really nice truck complete with the Ranch King upgrade.

Backing up.... yes it will take some adjustments for the longer wheel base. Here is a rough estimate to get you close. Drive 6 to 8 feet past the campsite (TT wheels are 6 to 8 feet beyond the camper pad) then crank the wheel hard and back up. You just need to find out the extra distance you need to drive past the campsite before backing up.

When we went from the T2499 to the T310SR using our Suburban, that was an adjustment... Then had to relearn again when we bought the long wheel base F350. For a 32 foot camper and a crew cab short bed TV it is 8 feet past the campsite... Looks like your almost at your neighbors site...

You will do well, no worries.

Good luck

John

John,

As usual thanks for the good advice!! Can't wait to try maneuvering this truck. Fortunately there is a parking lot close to us with little traffic over the winter so we can take the truck out and practice, practice, practice!!
