New Sunline house

The footing was poured today for the new Sunline house. It'll be 36 x 48 with two 12 foot rollup doors. Lots of room that in a very short time will not only hold the Sunline but lots of other stuff too. That's the way garages work isn't it?

It was not n easy decision to do this. I want this new Sunline to last us till we can't camp anymore and I needed a place for the Galaxie too. Our daughter's famly has our '98 Sunline 2475 and we will keep it in this garage in the winter months for them (Aren't I a nice Dad). I'm sure I will end up doing the brake and bearing checks and winterizing and dewinterizing it for them, but that's fine, I will know it will be road worthy for them.

We looked at covers and all kinds of other shelters and decided to go with a nice metal building big enough to store the trailers, the Galaxie and my mowing tractor, a 1953 Farmall Super C.

I don't have a place to turn around and with the location of this garage, I can pull up the driveway with the trailer and back it into the garage. Then when leaving for a trip just pull it out and go.

The only down side is that I know the tax man is licking his chops for this baby to be done.

If you were to think about covered storage for two coaches per year, you'll pay it off in a few years, and it'll only increase the value of your property of your home in the future.

Good going, and once winter comes around, and you and the son in law are sitting in your campers swilling cold ones talking about summer camping adventures, you'll be glad you built it.

I'll tell you from experience, run your power, water and gas there before it's finished, or you'll always kick yourself in the rear for years to come. When we built our barn, we ran all utilities to it (Gas, Water, Electric, Cable, Phone...ETC), after hearing years of regrets from our parents who thought they would do it later on down the road. 20 years later, their barn still only has electric and years of complaining about no heat or bathroom. It only cost us a few grand up front and when we just got our house apprasied to sell, it was one of the strongest selling points. You'll be glad you did it.

Have fun and enjoy your new stoarage spot!!

Pat

I hope MDFIREGAL doesn't see this post.......she's got the T-276, but a '53 Farmall and a garage to keep it all in too. I will be in deep doo-doo.

August 10 update. The boys are making great progress on the new Sunline house in spite of 100 degree temperatures. They get here at dawn and work until it isn't safe in the heat. I am tickled with the look and workmanship so far.

Thanks Jon,

I think my problem had something to do with my link ending.... /img.

Anyway, this is turning out to be a fun project. This week the sun is beating down unmercifully on the Sunline's rubber roof. Can't wait until I can shelter it.

The new garage is nearly done. The builders were short a few sheets of siding and those will be here Tuesday to finish the building. I backed the TT in this morning for the first time. Those 12 foot doors are a huge target and backing it in was a piece of cake. Lots of room to spare. We will be painting the doors to match the cream siding.

I think you need to get a custom painter out there, and recreate those old Mailpouch barn graphics with a GIANT Sunline logo.

That is cool. Those barns are a great part of American history. I was born and raised in Beaver County, Pa. a tiny place called Hookstown, near Shippingport. There is a barn like that next to the Hookstown Fairgrounds. Last time I was there, it very much needed the Mail Pouch sign repainted.

Also, I claim to be Missouri's biggest Steeler fan and am planning on making a Steeler hypocycloid logo for the weather vane on the new Sunline house.

Ahhhh, a small world it is! I like the Steeler logo idea even better.

I am leaving the country for a few months, starting in October, and I am trying to decide how I could possibly skip my first Steeler season in 30+ years .
