New lightweight generator

Saw this advertised in the current Highways magazine and looked up the website. The first 70 lb. generator that can run our roof AC units. Has a 30 amp plug receptacle and uses German Digital Sine Wave technology.

It looks almost too awesome to believe especially with a price under $1,000 !!!! Anyone know anything about this unit?

No I have not heard of them. Just followed your link.

Was doing well until I hit these 2 things.

It seems he has a May 1st , 2009 update. Odd, it's April 3rd, 2009 unless he had a finger slip 2 days ago

http://www.boliyguy.com/boliy_aboutus.html

The other thing that I'm still wrestling with is the made in China. He did admit at least that there was quality problems with the 1st 3 generations and the 4th is suppose to be all fixed.

We aquired a Honda unit this year. So I'm set for now. I did bump into the Kipor's while researching, but I could see they where really trying to copy cat the Honda's and at the price they where selling them at, I'm sure they are giving Honda a run for there money.

Maybe someone on the site here has a Boily and can report on this.

John

Take a peek on rv.net, there's been some discussion on there about these. There's also a several hundred page thread discussing the "cheap" gensets.

Owning two Honda Eu2000i's, I'd have a hard time switching to anything else.

Even though I could count the number of times we've fired them up on one hand due to our solar panels, when they are running, you cant hear them inside the Sunline

I'd love to test one of these Boily's to see how they compare to the Honda EU series

Going by the old adage, "You get what you pay for!", I suspect that these Boliy units are OK but they will not hold up in the long run like a Honda or Yamaha.
I could be wrong but time will tell!

It looks like they copied the design of the yamaha 2400, including the size of the engine.

Yes, it certainly does look a lot like the Yamaha unit. I was considering the Yamaha so I was attracted to this one because of the price and extra power.
The jury is still out, though. I could see that service might be a real issue, for one thing.

This is becoming a very common phenomenon. Chinese manufacturers are copying quality products from the US, Japan, and others, and producing, uh well, junk or near junk.

I follow an internet group devoted to the installation and repair of emergency vehicle lighting and electronic systems, and we are seeing nearly every good American made product being poorly copied and sold at very low prices. We call them "knockoff's." Quality is very low. Failure rates are extremely high. Repair/replace is non-existant. They claim warranty, but it's virtually impossible to get warranty service when the seller is in Hong Kong.

Based on the experiences reported in that forum, I am VERY leery of low priced Chinese made products that claim to compete with well known brand name items such as Yamaha, Honda, Whelen, Federal Signal and others. For me, this pretty much applies to any kind of product be it generators, LED flashing light systems, sirens, or whatever.
