Hi Wannabes,

Your truck when setup correct should be good for the T2363. We can help you with the WD hitch when ever you get the camper. Don't let the WD hitch be the stopping point for a sale. If is comes with any kind of WD hitch this is a starting point to help get you home. It may be upgradable or you sell it on Craigs list and then use those funds to upgrade. Worst case a new Reese straight line with 800# WD bars is around $560. There are often many used Reese WD hitch's on Craigs list for about 1/2 what a new on is.

Get the camper then we can work on the hitch. The round bar Reese with the DC is a problem on this low camper. It works but do not buy one new this way. The trunnion bar style has more options. I have helped several folks setup their Reese DC on that model camper and pending the hitch height if you end up going new, we may look at the Equal-I-zer by Progress mfg. as a good option to the Reese.

Good luck and hope this helps

John

Tweety and Sunline Fan,
Thank you for your comments. It puts our minds at ease b/c it reaffirms some things we've been thinking since Friday. With the NADA values and this year's listing prices for 2363s that SF sent us, we believe that our offer is fair (if not a little on the high side of fair). As you both point out, they might be trying to "work" us to up the offer. It does seem rather odd that someone would make a high offer yet not put even a $50 deposit down. We wish we had thought to ask the first names of the buyers to see if it was a ruse. At this point, as Tweety said, we've done what we can in making a bona fide offer w/ substantial deposit. While this past week has been minorly frustrating, the people of SOC have been great.

JohnB,
Thanks for the towing info, especially that you think that the F-150 should be able to easily handle a 2363. When we talked with Reese, they recommended at 600# trunnion bar WD w/dual cam, WD shank, and locking hitch pin for a little over $600. At that time, we thought we might be hauling a 1950, however, we really like the 2363 so we'd get the 800# trunnion bar. When we get a Sunline, we will be in contact with you to get your recommendations on a good towing system.

Hi Wannabes...I certainly would hold out for my price but also start canvassing the ads for another one--I firmly believe in the OPEN WINDOW in front--small trailers can get pretty stuffy without that extra ventilation. My experience with consignment lots--they really need that extra bit to cover their commissions...look to a private owner who NEEDS to sell theirs. Craigs List for starters. Call dealers--there are lists on the web of the Pa. dealers. We are near Scranton so if you need someone to look at one near here, please let me know--would be glad to help. Hi Lisa,

On your truck, do you know what rear axle ratio you have? 3.31, 3.55 or 3.73? And what cab configuration and wheel base? And... is it 4 x 4 or a 2 x 4 truck?

I'll tread lightly on the "easy to handle" comment until we know all of what you have.

Here is the 2012 Tow guide. Trying to find what configuration you have on page 18 of this guide
https://www.fleet.ford.com/showroom/...VTTgdeMar1.pdf

Just wanting to double check this.

Thanks

John

JohnB,

Here's the configuration for our '12 F-150: it is a V8 5.0L Crew Cab, 4x4, 3.73 rear axle with off-road package and towing package and a 145" wheelbase. My husband has been doing most of the towing research (and reading your threads) and I'm trying to keep up. Thanks!

Janalee,
Appreciated your comments and especially your gracious offer to look over a Sunline for us if we found one in your area. (We're about 3 hours west of Scranton in central PA.) If you come across anything, please let us know. We are going to hold out for our price with the one we've offered on and are continuing to look for 2363s. Every morning and evening we check out craigslist and other websites including dealers. We "have our names in" with two dealers in case a Sunline comes in. Thanks for the encouragement.

Lisa,

OK thanks. I'll start looking at the numbers. You have the best rear axle for towing out of the 3 they offer. And a 145" wheel base is better than my 2003 K2500 Suburban (130" WB) I had to tow our T2499.

One quick question, Do you have the Super Cab or the Super Crew on the 145" wheel base? Man, Ford offer a lot of cab and bed options. The truck weight is different between the 2.

Be back to you on this.

Thanks

John

Here's one at a much nicer price. Just popped up on Craigslist. Doesn't say much about condition but does give a phone number. And the front window opens!

Thanks, Tweety - we called them yesterday and left a message but so far no reply. (It would be nice to have the front-opening window.)

Unhappy Another update

Well, this has not been a good week for us in the hunt for a Sunline:

-- The T-2363 that we had an offer on was apparently sold as it is no longer listed on the RV service center's website. Either they did have a real bid for $7500 and it came through or we were part of a bidding war which we weren't aware of or somebody else just came along and outbid us;
-- We have made several phone calls and left 2 messages and an email on a 2002 T-2363 here in PA that came up on Craigslist on Monday of this week. We have gotten no response from the listing party;
-- We did talk to another seller who re-listed a 1998 T-2363 on Craigslist (eastern PA). He told us that his trailer was in good condition, however, there was a leak in the roof which was fixed, and some water damage on the wall (I think) where the leak was. He sent us some pixs of both interior and exterior but no pixs of the damage. After looking at the pixs and discussing it, we will probably not go see it as it would be a six-hour roundtrip and, from what we've read on this site about POs saying that leaks were fixed, well...

At this point, I'm a little depressed. Matthew, however, is staying on the positive side thinking that we will eventually find something that works for us.

Be patient. I know that's hard to hear, but something will come along. I found an absolutely mint 2006 T-2363 for my brother last spring, which had only been towed less than 100 miles and barely used, for a great price. In my opinion, you're being smart to be picky and not settle for something that is damaged or not in great condition. It's easier to wait for a great one, than settle for less and have to deal with repairs and water damage.

I hope this doesn't make you more depressed but my wife and I took a year to find our 2363. We looked at, walked through, and smelled lots of brands and then we spotted OUR 2363 on consignment at a lot in Maine, about 10 minutes away from a camground we go to often in North Conway N.H. We didn't even know about Sunline then but the instant we saw the inside we knew it was the one. Hang in there, you will find yours too. You have a lot of Sunliners pulling for you.

There is one on craigslist from Easton, Pa. Not sure if this is one you called about. I'm not far from there and could look at it if you're interested.

Sunline Fan can hone in on a year for the Easton PA one. The windows have black trim verses white. That narrows down the years.

That one a 1998, and I think they already talked to the owner about that one.

Mike and Roz, Nanna and Poppy (and others),

Jon is right, we did speak to the owner of the '98 2363 craigslisted in Easton and have ruled it out b/c the pixs sent seemed to indicate that the past care of it may have been "iffy" and, even in the pixs, it looked pretty worn. (Mike and Roz, we really appreciate your offer to take a look at it for us. If another one comes up down your way, we may take you up on it.)

The craigslist 2363 in Alburtis has a 2' soft spot in the bedroom near the outside door. The people who own it are the original owners and said that the soft spot was there pretty much since they bought the trailer and that they hardly ever walked around that side of the bed so it didn't bother them enough to get it fixed. We are told that the rest of the 2363 is in very good condition; as far as can be told on the listing pixs, it looks in decent shape. We are discussing an "as is" price and a SOC member is willing to look at it for us and give us a report on overall condition because we can't get there to see it this week.

Some SOCers have said that they would never consider a trailer with a soft spot (or any sign of water damage); others have said that, for them, a soft spot doesn't necessarily rule it out. Anyone who wants to weigh in on this, please do so as we need to consider all angles here.

Hi Lisa and Matt

This one, depends. First are you handy with wood working tools and already have them? If so then you doing the work makes this practical as shop rates can be $65 to $100 an hour makeing a large job not always practical.

Then there is the unknown. Go into this eyes wide open, the price has to be right as it might be a fair amount of unknown damage until you open it up.

There is no easy answer to this. If you are into restoring or fixing up things this can be a great project as the project justifies the work and cost. If you are after a camper to get going camping in, this may not have the same effect or rewarded results.

The only thing for sure is, once you buy it, it is now all yours.

Hope this helps. We are rooting for ya!!

John
