Looking for T-2470

A good friend of mine is looking for his first TT and I've convinced him to consider a used Sunline. He has looked through all the floorplans and is convinced the only one that works for him is a T-2470. He needs bunks, and needs to keep the weight down because he is pulling with a 2003 F-150 CC s/b.

We've done a Craiglist search within 1000 miles and found a couple, but they are 12 hours away and overpriced. I'm wondering if someone here on the forum knows of a nice one for sale at a decent price. It would need to be in good condition.

Jeff

Where in the country are you looking? How about a 2670? It weighs 4486#. This one looks nice.

Yes, in MI/OH/IN/IL, etc, but I think he'd travel much further for the right unit.

There don't seem to be many 2470's out there. Not sure what years they made them, though I know for sure I've seen 2000's and 2001's.

I'll see if the 2670 would work. It's getting a bit heavy for his truck. Doing a nationwide google search, I didn't find many 2670's either.

Jeff,

What size engine does he have in his 2003 F-150?

Our previous Sunline was a T-2670, which we pulled with a Ford E-150 with the 5.4L Engine and it pulled it with no problem at all. If his F-150 has the 5.4L engine, it should have more towing capacity that our E-150 had, so he would have no problem towing a T-2670.

We had our 2670 for 7 years and towed it all over the country including out west. It was a great trailer.

Good Luck
Hutch

He's got the 5.4l. The issue is not GCWR it' the payload capacity of the truck. It doesn't have much. Sure he could pull maybe even a 29' model with slide, but he'd be way over his GVWR on the truck.

Boy - that surprises me. What's the GVWR on the truck?

If you're interested I can check my old records to see if I have anything on what our tongue weight was on the T-2670.

Edited 02/02:
Couldn't find any information on loaded tongue weight for our 1999 T-2670.
But specs on our 1998 E-150 Conversion Van were:
GCWR: 12,000#
GVWR: 7,000#
Tow Rating: 6,900#
Rear Axel: 3,800 #

It had the 5.4L w/ 3.55 gears.

Our 1999 T-2760 loaded weight (axle weight) was 5,520 # when weighed at the scales during a trip.

Not sure if any of that information is of any use or help to you if you or your friend is going to consider a T-2670.

2002 was the last year, and I only know of one for that year. That was a rare model though, because it ran from 1991-1995, and then again from 2000-2002.

Also check out the Saturn T-24A. It is very similar in the layout. The only thing is it's a Saturn, so it won't have all the features that the Solaris does. That went from 1996 to 1999, and basically replaced the 2470 probably because they figured families would go for the cheaper bunk model instead of the more expensive version, so the amenities didn't matter. But in 2000 when the Saturn line was dropped, it was brought back.

There was a 2002 in Carlisle, PA. http://74.125.95.132/search?q=cache:...&ct=clnk&gl=ca

The link isn't working at the moment, so that's Google's cached version. Maybe it will work later. It's an old ad, so maybe it has finally disappeared. I'm sure the price is more negotiable now if it's still for sale.

I can get you the picture if you'd like.

Jon

Jon, what an asset your are to this community!

You may recall from our earlier conversations, my first sunline was a 1996 T-24A. Going from that to the 1999 Solaris T-2570, I noticed a tremendous difference in features and quality.

I'm waiting to hear back from my friend on the GVWR of his truck. As I recall him saying, he only had less than 1000 pounds of payload capacity, not including passengers, gear, etc.

Hey Jeff,

Thanks for the compliments!

I had indeed forgotten about your 24A. I guess only the 2570 sticks because it's the one I've seen pics of and that you've talked about more.

Jon, you're right, I never shared any pics of the 24A. Maybe I was trying to forget about it. Anyways, your post made me go look for some. I found them! Here you go:

Oh, at the bottom of the final picture, in front of the bathroom, you'll notice the flooring is discolored. Under the bottom bunk was the furnance, and exploded water heater (unknown to me when I bought it). The flooring under the bunk, next to the bunk, and in the bathroom was all rotted and replaced, along with the water heater. I got a great deal on it, and that must have been why. I sold it for more than I paid after 2 years, but put a whole lotta sweat into that one, and got a great education on TT's, what to look for, and how to fix 'em!
