Leaky faucet problem/question

Hello

I have a 1995 T1700 sunline camper. I’ve had it for a couple of years now and have been constantly doing some work on it. Lately the kitchen faucet leaks when I turn it on. More comes from the handle than the actual faucet. Any suggestions/tips on how to correct this? I have attached two photos. One of the front of the faucet and one of the back. I can’t find anywhere to unscrew or disconnect to try and replace an O-ring which may be the issue?? Thanks!

IMO you’re better off just replacing the whole faucet with an Amazon job rather than trying to repair it, camper faucets are made pretty cheaply and are mostly plastic, a new one is about 25 bucks.

Hi,

That mono lever faucet does not look like an original that Sunline would have installed in 1995, it may have been upgraded by a prior owner.

Regardless if it was original or an upgrade, there "may" be rebuild kits available for it. It starts with finding the brand and then backing into a model, its parts are still available. For many of the mono lever faucets, below the handle, there is a hollow ball with water direction holes in it that sits on top of spring-loaded Orings. Sometimes the O rings go bad and leak, other times there is corrosion in the O ring seats or on the ball. In this case, the rebuild kit will not work, and you are forced into a new faucet.

You can buy a home-style faucet at the local lumber yard that will fit the same sink. They used a standard hole size in the sink. See if any of those may appeal to your likes. Or get a new faucet online etc.

One thing I will add, on the water pipes from the camper that hook up the faucet, they use PEX swivel fittings that screw onto the faucet under the sink. Inside that PEX fitting is a cone washer that creates the water seal to the faucet piping. After that many years, those cone washers get brittle and can leak once you take them apart. The best is to install new cone washers when you put the old faucet back in or a new one. If you need help finding the cone washers let us know.

They usually come with the faucet. I just bought this one off Amazon. It came with the cones.

The cone washer sold by itself was a challenge to find, but I did finally track it down. Most places only sell an entire swivel fitting with the cone washer in it. No one wants to deal with a penny type item held in inventory.

Flair-It is a brand of fittings that offers their swivel seals separate from the fittings as replacements and they are potable water rated. They call it "SANTOPRENE SWIVEL SEAL 1/2"" and it uses part number 06435 for a single seal and part number 16425 for a pack of 10.

I used to buy these on Amazon for $0.99 for a pack of 10 as an add on item. You had to buy $25 worth of something and they would then ship the pack of 10 with that shipment. Shipping these costs more then the seal itself, or use to.

The price is now sort of nuts even with Prime shipping. I have no good reason why they cost that much. You can buy single ones, but these retailer's will charge freight.

I have bought from them both and had good transactions. Just the check the freight as it may cost more then the Amazon.

There are other options that you may find locally. You go to the local pluming supply store, Lowes, Home Depot etc. and buy a 1/2" PEX swivel fitting, plastic or brass, and then pull the cone washer out of it. While I said plastic, sometimes the lower cost plastic fitting is a pack of 5 fittings which can be more then the Amazon cost. If you can find individual fittings, then 2 fittings may be cheaper bought locally in plastic or brass.

I myself have never been able to buy a faucet that the cone washer came with the faucet. Even if it was an RV faucet. The new faucet just had the 1/2" male NPT ends and it was up to you to hook it up. It seems that is not true on all brands since Thekid710 found a faucet with them included. Point being, when you go to the store or wherever you buy the faucet, check to see what is included so you do not have to make a second trip back to get the cone washers.

Basically it's standard home plumbing stuff any thing you need will be at a big box store. I converted my T1700 to a single handle pull down spray one.
