Kitty had a rough weekend
When I got home from work on Friday, kitty was sitting in her chair as usual. She got a bit sleepy and decided to take a nap. A short time later, she let me know her belly was really hurting. When I got to her, she was doubled over in pain. I gave her one of her pain pills and sat with her until it took effect. I went back to what I was doing and a short time later, I got a garbled text message from her. I dropped what I was doing and ran back inside. When I got to her, she was shivering violently and said that she was freezing. She was normal when I left her, 30 minutes prior. I took her temperature and it was 99.1*.
I called her doctor's office and they put me in touch with the on-call doctor. He said that the violent shivering was a bad sign and that I needed to get her to the emergency room. I called 911 and got her ready to go.
By the time we got to the ER, her temperature was up to 104.6* Her blood pressure was also dropping fast. She was in the beginning stages of septic shock. They immediately ordered and hung two liters of fluids and ran them wide open. When they were done, they ran two more. Her blood pressure continued to drop in the 62/36 range. She then got two different antibiotics, as well as norepinephrine to get her blood pressure back up.
We stayed in the ER for about 10 hours and she was then transferred to the intensive care unit. When she was moved, her blood pressure was still only 70/40.
She slept most of yesterday and was still on the norepinephrine. She was also still getting the antibiotics and they started her on dopamine also. The dopamine was also for blood pressure. She also had to get two units of blood, since her blood counts were dangerously low. Once she got the blood, she started feeling a little better.
She was better today and more awake and alert. They stopped the norepinephrine and were hoping to be able to stop the dopamine tonight. If her blood pressure holds on it's own, she'll be able to get out of the ICU and go to another floor.
It turned out to be a massive urinary infection and it came on very rapidly. I hope and pray that she continues to improve. Had we not gotten her to the hospital quickly, we would have lost her on Friday.
Please keep her in your prayers.. She really needs them!

Gary, Kitty is truly blessed to have such a wonderful husband looking after her. Glad to hear there has been some improvement and hope more will follow soon. We're keeping you both in our prayers.

Went to visit her after work and got there just in time, to see them stop the dopamine IV. That was the second one of the drugs used, to keep her blood pressure up. Even an hour later, her blood pressure was holding steady!
She even managed to get out of bed (With some help) and her blood pressure held... They also lifted the neutropenic precautions. They required anyone entering the room, to wear a mask. They didn't want anyone giving her another bug!
With her blood pressure holding it's own, she may actually get out of intensive care tomorrow. Her immune system is extremely weak now and that is due to her chemo. We will have to be extra cautious, about keeping sick people out of range... She cannot risk catching anything else.
She also wanted me to thank you all for the support and prayers!

Gary, are you willing to tell us the name of the hospital and room # so cards can be sent? (Maybe after she is moved out of ICU). If you don't want to post so much info here, you can send a PM.
Thanks.
Both of you are still in our daily prayers.

She is at City Hospital, in Martinsburg, WV. With the new privacy regulations, only people with a special code can contact her. She does have her cell phone and enjoys talking with people (When she's not sleeping)
Anyone can send cards to the house and I'll hand-deliver them to her..
If anyone wants the address, or phone number.... Send me a PM and I'll give them to you.. I am also planning on taking her baby laptop to the hospital, so she can get online....

Sorry for taking so long to respond... I've spent all my evenings this week, with Kitty and at the hospital. She got out of ICU on Tuesday and did so well, that they released her last evening. I got her home and the dogs (As well as myself) were happy to have her home. The dogs knew she was weak and did not "Attack" her, like they normally would. They get very excited, when one of us gets home, but they were very well-mannered last evening!
She's still very weak and a bit "Out of it" but I'll have to get her brain working again...
