Kinda sad....

I see a few more owners putting up their Sunnys for sale on SOC...It is certainly understandable for those of you who put lots of miles on your campers, need more or less camper, want to modernize, want to take advantage of a good price on a new or seldom used camper, or any number of a hundred or so reasons... and of course...Sunline itself has gone to that happy RV manufacturing plant in the sky, so getting a new one of those ain't happening'...but it's kinda like watching the demise of a species........................................... ...................................
Sorry...(SLAP!!!!) I'm over it now...... never mind.....

We see what you mean; but, just think: those sold Sunnys will be picked up by someone eventually. And, ideally, those 'someones' will become members of this forum and give their classics the love and care they deserve.

As a now former Sunline owners I can tell you it was difficult to let our 2499 go. In my opinion the 2499 is the perfect, 2 person, week end camper. But in our case it was because we are soon to become snow birds. Despite what some other folks say I am sure that Barb and could not spend 6 to 8 weeks in a 2499, Barb has to have her sewing machine. Believe it or not this sewing machine issue was a prime driver in the new trailer decision process.

Its like I told one of the many RV salesmen I spoke to in the last 4 months. If Sunline was still in business we would not be listening to your sales pitch as I would have bought a new Sunline 5th wheel.

I'll second this. The main driving reason we moved from the T2499 to the T310SR was for extended trips, out west was the plan however it has been east coast based for the time being. We truly lucked out on the T310. About gave up after looking at the other brands and then the T310 "appeared", a week later it was camping in our yard...

The DW flat out would not want to take extended trips in the smaller camper. I really had separation anxiety parting with our T2499. However it now has a new home with good folks and the Sunline tradition continues.

If Sunline was still in business, we would waited a little and ordered a new TT based on the T310 with a few custom things. Have not made it to the point of a 5'er yet.

I look at it this way, we have collector items. Each is unique and special. After we have outgrown this one, another fellow camper family will have new and exciting adventures with it. Each week we gain new members and the older campers are still going strong.

Another point, any SOC member is always welcome here, the brand of camper is not a concern.

I have to agree that we would have preferred another Sunline. Our current TT has a wonderful layout and plenty of room for us and the poodles but I miss the Sunline. We knew we needed a larger TT for comfort on longer trips so we went shopping.

I agree with everything said. I love our Sunline but we have been talking about moving up to a motorhome. A friend of ours just bought a new trailer too and I was a little jealous at the amenities. But a funny story on this...my six year old daughter told me that she did not want to sell the trailer. She said that she would decide when it was okay to do so. I tried to explain to her nicely that at 6 years old, her mother and I wouldn't really be asking her permission when it came time to move on from the trailer. My kids love it though, especially the bunk beds. We've had a lot of great memories in it. I would have loved to see what a current Sunline product would look like and have.

This coming Friday, I will have had mine for five years. Amazing it has been that long. When I bought it, I told myself my goal is to get 25 years out of it. Of course if I can get longer, awesome.

This is my 18th summer with Sunlines, and I have no plans to go anywhere else.

After having the Fox for a year, there are a few things I still miss about Tweety. But I now have to admit neither of us would want to go back. We love the 4 season capability, and the lighting, and lots of the other little perks we are now used to that Tweety didnt have. I still feel nostalgic when I see a Sunline, or drive by the old factory. We used to easily spot Sunlines when we took a walk down across the highway overpass, but its rare now. Kind of makes me wonder where the heck they are.

Did anyone ever really find out why the Sunline plant closed? Did a competitor buy it and immediately shut it down? We too are moving on but not without sadness and some concerns. Our Sunline, purchased after the plant closure, came with no warranty except the warranty by the component makers. No Sunline warranty at all. But.......the original warranty was three years on the structure and two years on the components. Our new Keystone Cougar will have a one year warranty.

I'm currently in the process of selling the T2499. We never used the Sunline enough to warrant keeping it and it is becoming too difficult, physically, to continue to maintain all my vehicles. Two of my collector cars are going to be sold, as well.

The T2499 performed flawlessly on the few trips that we took while we owned it. Not only did Sunline put the best of equipment and engineering into their coaches but this unit is so loaded with desirable options that I never once even could think of anything that I could improve upon.

I'm going to SINCERELY regret selling it but reality is going to win out.

I know there were lots of nasty rumors about the investors, but someone who knows for sure told me that they tried really hard to save Sunline. It was the economy. Maybe I'm living in a bubble of naïveté but I do believe this person to be honest.

The economy was small part of it, only because it really wasn't that bad when they closed. There were other lingering/behind the scene factors that contributed to the decision. I don't know how long they really thought out the decision, but they kept it quiet. It was a complete shock to the majority of employees, even though some had to have sensed something with how slow it was around there in the months prior.

No one bought anything of the company. They auctioned assets off, but that was about it. The intellectual property never sold as far as I know, but they had a high price tag on it for a reason.

This definitely is a different club with so much SOB influence. Not like it was in the beginning. But life moves on...
