I WISH I was off camping. We're going to summerise our little TT this coming week as we wont be getting bitter cold temps anymore this spring. I was outside getting the garden in all day, putting up the rabbit fence, turning under the compost etc. Good exercise in the sun and fresh air.

With camping season so close you'd think the site would be all a twitter about everyone's trip plans, new mods etc. Maybe someone should start a where are you going this year discussion!

I de-winterized my sunline late yesterday.

Filled the fresh water tank, lines, hot water tank etc.

Temp went down to to the mid 20's last night, hopefully I won't have a problem.

Have to keep an eye on the low temps, maybe keep the furnace on low, or electric heater.

Happy Camping !!!!!

I am in Williamsburg, VA for my week of spring break. Weather is so-so, not cold but cool. Really nice today. I'm here with my Open Roads Singles Group, and will head home on Sunday.

Next weekend I'll go to Raphine, VA for a weekend of Cowboy Action Sport Shooting(SASS)

The following saturday, I'll be going to "GIG" Greyhounds in Gettysburg, for a day long event there.

Next thing I know it will be time for the great Sunline Rally

Gotta go, things to do,

Kitty

Sanitized the water system, blew out water and re-pinked stuff'ed the drains in fear of freezing.

Added new group 27 battery and holder on TT tongue

Silicone treated the dump valves.

She is ready to go camping and so are we..... It's been allmost 6 weeks now... Will be out the weekend after Easter.

Happy camping and cleaing

Tweety has been reloaded with all the interior stuff I took out for winter. Batteries are back on and she's dewinterized. Mr Tweety had the rustoleum out in the driveway so I think he was underneath taking care of business there. Tires checked on both vehicles. Weekend after Easter we're outta here to Codorus State Park. It'll be our first dry camping with the generator since all the electric / pet sites were taken. Mr Tweety was ecstatic that I couldn't get electric
Other plans for the season include
Beacon Hill in Lancaster area
SOC M&G
Ives Run COE up in northern PA
Trap Pond in Delaware on the way down to....
First Landing in Virginia Beach
Little Pine State Park for Labor Day
Big Meadows, Shenandoah Naitonal Park for the change of leaves

Silicone treated dump vales ??

Do you just spray the shafts that the dump valve handles are on.
In other words pull the handles all the way out spray and then worked in and out ??

Do you actually spray up in the drian housing of the vales also ??

Any info appreciated.

Thanks

Sunline1:

I do both - spray the valve shafts (work in & out) and also spray up the pipe with valve closed and work valve in & out.

Hutch
I do the same but...

What has always perplexed me is how to reliably get the spray on uh, the "dark" side of the valve plate....

The only solution I ever ran across was using coconut oil. Supposedly you drained the tanks and then poured a mix of water and the oil into both the black and grey tanks - just enough to fill the drain pipe so that the valves would be about half covered with fluid. Then drive down the road. Supposedly the sloshing about would get the oil on the valve plates pretty well, and then when you drained it, working the valves in and out would get the oil into the body of the valve housing where the plates slide.

There are sort of 2 styles of dump valves that I have run across. There may be a few others too as I know Hutch has 3 dump valves.

The ones that look like this. Right out in the open. This was on my T2499.

On this style I had Silicone spray in a can with a little red tube on it like comes on WD 40. I just stick it up the dump pipe area, squirt the slider valves closed, then open then and squirt some more. Then work the valves back and forth and squirt some more etc etc. You can tell immediately the silicone is working on lubing up the valve. It’s quick and I do it as many times a season as needed so I don’t rip the O rings out of the dump valve.

Now next is the “remote” style. This is on my T310SR with enclosed tanks. I had to be more creative on this style. The dump valves on this style are right on the end of the tank outlet so there is no water in the drain feeder pipe. This way the dump valves don’t freeze up with liquid being exposed out in the open.

I think Mack’s (Mack C-85) valves are this way too as he ordered the tank heater option with his camper, just no enclosed tanks.

So on this style I had to come up with a method on how to get the silicone up that 4 to 6 feet of pipe and around a few elbows. H’mm,,,, so I came up with this.

On the black tank I just took a piece of 3/8” OD polyethylene tubing long enough the shove up the black tank dump pipe until it reached the slider valve. Then I squirted silicone in the hose to puddle up, then I used compressed air to blow it up into the valve. Then did the same thing as on the T2499 with opening/closing, squirting etc etc. This was the easier one.

Now the gray tank, I tried but could not fish a hose back up thru those 2 hard 90 degree bends so I did this. I drill and taped into the gray tank dump plumbing down stream of the valve and inserted a fitting pointing right at the slider valve. Then ran the hose down to the dump pipe and taped in before the cover. This way all the fumes etc are inboard and it is still a closed system. Then I can pop the hose off, squirt the silicone in the hose and blow it up into the valve. Repeat the squirt, slide, squirt slide routine. This works well for me.

This is a O ring push lock fitting. You can pop it on and off easy.

When I winterize, I use compressed air to blow out that tube in case any water got in it.

Others may have a different way to skin this cat, but this is what I came up with. Works good. Maybe this can spark some ideas on how you can do yours.

Hope this helps

John

PS Heads up, make sure the tanks are "empty" before doing this. If not, there will be a surpise inside LOL

Mine is the out in the open type you mentioned.

I will take the silicone spray, to the dump valve (Flapper), as you indicate.

I can see the flapper, from the end of the assemly.

Thanks to you and everyone for their input/guidance.

Wow sounds like most of you folks are pretty well ready to go camping,I uncovered the camper last weekend and that's all I got done, still gotta get a battery(probably do that today),dewinterize, clean inside and out,put all the things back in the camper that had been removed for winter, check all the caulk ,treat the roof, change oil in the truck and be ready to go camping the first weekend of may,wow I'm slacking this year, between rainy weather and working 65 hrs a week, have not been getting much done.work has finally slowed a bit so now if the weather will just cooperate I could get ready to do some camping.

WOW... I keep forgetting you folks live where it gets REALLY cold & have to winterize.

We've got all five tires replaced. We have the battery charger hooked up (checked the water first). The inside already pretty clean. The OUTSIDE however is very dirty... the coach sits in our side yard surrounded by two oaks and a couple of 70+ foot pine trees, so there's pollen and such EVERYWHERE. We have to rinse off the car every two or three days becuase it looks so YELLOW.

Silicone spray for the dump valves... never thought of that. I LIKE IT!

We have a trip planned for NEXT weekend. Going to visit Torreya State Park in north Florida. Then we wait until July for our week-long Rally in Charlottesville, Virginia with our North Florida camping group. Another long wait until October and our Halloween trip to Jellystone Campground in Madison, Florida. November brings the Big Pig Jig in Vienna, Georgia with some of the best BBQ around. We'll be just down the road at Georgia Veterans State Park for that weekend. And last but not least, we travel to the Orlando, Florida area in mid-December for my nephew's wedding. We'll camp at Wekiwa Springs State Park.

I spray silicone into the valves, which on the 2499 are easy to access as JohnB showed.

I've also noticed that some tank chemicals lubricate valves and wonder if that is the solution to reaching the inside. I've used Odorlos ever since I noticed the lube in fine print, but there are others too. However, there are many chemicals that do not lube. I have no way of knowing how good this is, but figure every little bit helps.
