I expected and prepared for the worse figuring anything less would be a gift. Well the storm is over with just a few 30 mph wind gusts and a little rain remaining. My house is fine and my Sunline made it through just fine and dry inside.
We only got winds just under 60 mph and 2 inches of rain in my rain gauge.
The winds lasted all day and my yard is littered with leaves and small sticks but no downed trees or big limbs. My power and cable flickered a few times but I never lost power. Unfortunately the town and state didn't do as well, there are massive power outages in RI.
Power is out to over 9,000 of 12,000 customers in my town and 330,000 of 420,000 customers in the state when I last checked the National Grid website. The village of Wickford and most of the area around it is dark tonight. There are not many downed trees or limbs so it must be just a few breakers that tripped to shut down massive areas.
One bright note, Saturday I took down hanging plants and my hummingbird feeder and the bar they hang on. Just after that I saw hummingbirds fly up to the spot the feeder had been located and stop. They would hover a bit then fly off so I refilled the feeder and hung in near where it had been. They returned all day Saturday so I left it up. Today they managed to make it just fine through all the wind gusts and the feeder stayed in place hanging from a gutter on the covered part of my deck. Here is one visiting during the storm. They love to perch and rest while they feed.
