Introducing Sunny 19

At the M&G this past weekend, Kitty had a very hard time negotiating all the steps in the fifth wheel. For the last several weeks, I've been looking for a non-slide Sunline TT, so there would be minimal steps for her to climb. We had found her old 93 T-2363 a couple weeks ago and asked the owner if it was for sale. Long story short, he jerked us around too much. After getting home from the M&G yesterday, we dropped off Sunny 18 and headed to where I had seen a T-2453 and the owner said it was for sale. When we got there, the Sunny was already gone.

On the way home, I remembered a fiberglass Sunline that was sitting behind a house. I decided to stop by and talk to the owner. He said that he had bought it from the original owner (His brother-in-law) last year, with the intention of fixing it up and selling it. I asked him what he wanted for it, the way it sat. We ended up buying it for $500 less than his asking price.

We picked it up today and brought her home. It is a 1997 T-2653 Advancer. That was the first year for the "Advancer" fiberglass exterior. It is not the narrowed-nose "Lite" model, but a full size T-2653. I had to bring my group 27 battery, since the one on the tongue already was dead as a doornail. While hitching up, I noticed that the break away pin was broken off, but figured it was a short drive home and I'd put a new on on anyway.

We got hitched up, tested the lights. I also filled all the tires to 50PSI. I was a little unsettled with the tires, since they were the ones put on at the factory! They looked in good condition, but I know that looks can be deceiving. When I pulled off, it felt as if the brakes were dragging. I pulled over and got out to check. I ended up figuring out the problem... Not only was the break away pin broken... It was gone! No wonder the battery was shot!

I cut the break away switch wire and the brakes let loose. We were only about 8 miles from home, so I just took back roads and took it very easy. There were no issues getting it home.

The interior is in great shape, with the exception of the floor. There are several soft spots and I knew that from the original inspection. It will probably be a big job, but one I look forward to. Other than that, the only other problem I found was a hole in the propane line from the regulator to the hard line. Even with the small hole, the stove and furnace lit right off. Once I checked them, the propane was shut off. I'll replace the hose in short order.

Most of the decals are in fairly good shape, for their age. The Advancer decals on the sides are mostly gone. The Sunny is pretty dirty and in serious need of a complete sealing job. Kitty fell in love with it, the minute she saw it! She went from "We don't need another trailer!" to "That's MY trailer!" in less than five days!

We're not sure how long she'll stay in our Sunline "Fleet" but it will, at least until Kitty gets stronger. She knows how much work I have ahead of me, but nothing is too much for my lady!

On to the pictures!

Here she is... sitting in the grass... Been sitting her for over a year and a half..

She's pretty dirty outside!

Side by side Sunnys!

Gary and Kitty,

Congrats on your new Sunny!!! Nice looking camper.

You will get er fixed up and have a good time in it.

You also confirmed something for me, the Advancers had 30# LP tanks.... I was looking for this on Tom's 2001 and the brochure was fuzzy to see if it was a 30# tank. I can see yours are.

John

Gary, just a heads up. Plan on replacing the flooring when you fix the soft spots. We had to fix two spots on our coach and the floor fix was fairly easy, the problem came when we went to reinstall the linoleum, it had shrunk about 1 1/2" all around. We ended up replacing with a lightweight laminate flooring:

Squirrels evidently have an affinity for the rubber propane hoses.

When I replaced mine after an "attack" The RV parts person told me to wrap the hose in aluminum duct tape. I did this then covered the whole thing in a plastic automotive wire loom held in place with zip ties. Six years later and no repeat performances by Mr. Squirrel, even though it has been parked in the same place.

Congratulations on number 19, you know you can't quit now....got to get to an even 20!!!!!!

Mack

When you see my floor repair post, you will see that it is unsafe as it is. Kitty needs a firm floor to walk on.

Already in the planning... Kitty is leaning towards a new linoleum floor..

Interestingly enough, the hose had the tape and loom... Just not in the spot that was chewed through!

They are indeed...

Only problem is, that when the squirrels chewed through the hose, the tanks leaked out... No problem though... I have four full spares!

Ah, you should have emailed me and asked! The first gen Advancers aren't anything like the second gen. These were nothing more than deluxe Solaris models- with fiberglass exterior walls. The '00-'02 Advancers (second gen) were designed to be lighterweight, tow easier, etc. The second gen had the taper body, which the firsts did not.

That being said, the 19-25' Advancers had 20# bottles. The 26' and up had two 30#. So all 2000 Advancers had 20# bottles and about 2/3 of the '01/'02 floorplans had 20# bottles as well.
