Icy in Maryland

I know a lot of us woke up to an ice storm this morning, here's a photo of our Sunline waiting for camping season. So glad I can park it in a clearing!

A pic for next year's calendar? The ice on the trees is pretty, but you (and the Sunline) would probably be happy it there were leaves instead.

My sympathies back in 98 we got really clobbered with ice no power for 11 days, one car wide roads for a week and further north the ice brought down high tension towers. Our neighbors had to craw on their hands and knees under the down trees and power lines to get to our house where we had a generator running for a warm shower and TV news. Fortunately all we got out of that storm was about a foot of snow and Maine in the winter runs on snow so it was a good thing.

You're only a little over an hour south of us, we had the snow on the ground already, Wednesday everything got a 1/4" coating of ice. Probably the same as you got.

I've been pretty lucky so far this winter, most storms have been just southeast or northwest of me. This last one was about 10" with a little freezing rain on top.

In the foreground is my Toyota MR2 Spyder mid-engine roadster.

Rich,

Your skating rink looks similar to what we had. At the house here we had approx 8" of snow and 1/4" ice on top if it. What a mess.... And now we are back into a single digit cold snap. Suppose to snow again on Sunday am. Spring cannot come fast enough....

Fortunately for the first time since 2007 the T310SR sleeps inside this winter or it would look all crusty too....

Like this from 2010

That compared to this. The building has been a long time coming, and now it is here.

Stay warm

John

Now that's the ticket for storing your Sunline. I can think of a few other items I'd park in there as well! Oh, and don't forget the lift for those oil changes and exhaust work.

Thanks Rich,

The date of that pic was when the concrete was cured enough for a test fit... Since then the "stuff" is already accumulating. It seems no matter how big a building one builds, they never seem big enough. And then there is, "Hey Dad, can I store 2 of my vehicles in the new barn until spring?" This is also followed by his jet ski, son in laws boat, sons 14' day sail'er and the beginning stuff of our move, mainly my prior farm equipment. Later this year the plan is to move up there.

Exhaust work... I have ate my fair share of rust doing exhaust systems years ago. The newer vehicles are a whole lot better on longevity. That said, one will most likely be coming due soon. Once a vehicle hits 10 years those kind of repairs come with it. DW's Trail Blazer is now going on 11 years and the big truck is getting closer each year now.

That is the type of building that attracts "stuff" nature a abhors a vacuum! Been there my new one here in Maine is 36X36 and the first thing I did was fill it with my "stuff". Sorry no more room. Oh and it does have a lift funny how that attracts things too. My favorite tool for those that like to use my lift is a cattle prod I just stand around until they clean up.

You can always charge people building cleanup as payment for using lift.

Just a point of curiosity, is it necessary to have these ads popping up right in out posts? Is nothing left untouched by the hand of commercialism today?

LOL It is all good. I'm always glad to help, especially a camping buddy, family or a friend. We “barter” often. Sometimes it might take a few years to collect, however the good turn comes back.

Son helped bail me out (literally) last fall. Basement water back up… OMG what a mess. We have had 2 very un-normal super heavy rains last year that backed up the sump pump discharge pipe. By the time I got home to deal with it, high water everywhere create traffic chaos, the water was an inch over the top of the concrete... and by the time I got the extra pump running out the window it was 6” above the concrete…. By then thank the good Lord, Son came over after work. Was about 06:00pm by now. By 3:00am the last wet rug went out the basement window. I would still be bailing… if he had not shown up. It is amazing how many pounds of water a rug holds...

Son in Law is a computer whiz who works for the local PBS TV network. Whenever I have a computer problem (like when Cindy’s PC got a virus) I have a built in help line… So free storage for 4 months is a small price to pay… Give out enough good turns and they come back paid in full. Just sometimes they take longer than others… Like mainah said, fill’er up first with “your” stuff, just be quick about it...

Rich,
I haven't seen any adds IN the posts but I use to see some near the top of the page. My home router is set to block a lot of google ad services so I don't see them there anymore.

Ah, now that's interesting, Gene, you said you don't see the ads and now that I'm on my home computer with Norton's, I don't see them, but on my brand new computer at my business, with a bundled Macafee anti-virus, I do see them. I think I'll install Norton there as well and get rid of the (probably scaled-down version) Macafee program.

You may notice that a lot of the ads are for something you recently searched elsewhere or saw on Amazon for example. That's deliberate. Also I've been on this site while in Europe and South America and the ads are there in the native languages eventhough the the ad may not be for something in that country. An ad for Camping World in Turkish for example while all of the Sunline site is in English. That's some fancy programming. Bill Gates knows who you are, what you looked at, where you are and what time it is there. He assumes you speak the local language though.

Right now I see a local car dealer and an ad for that "Neat" scanner which I googled yesterday.
