Of course every time this happens my Dad calls from Florida keys to ask how our weather is, and our daughter sends a text message from San Francisco complaining about a little rain GRRR

Well, back from the storage facility and the fifth wheel is just as I left it. Not sure what I expected, but I just had to get inside to have a look around.

Unfortunately by the time I got the cover loose enough to get in, I was numb from the cold (and WIND) and couldn't handle being inside for more than 60 seconds or so... just long enough to check everything out.

I left a gallon jug of toilet chemical in there which was frozen solid. Fortunately I had used 20% of the container so it had plenty of room inside to expand without bursting the jug. That was such a rookie mistake!

You can send some of that snow up here. We haven't had a good storm all winter. This is the first storm that I even bothered getting the snow blower out. And I still debated on weather to use a shovel or the snow blower.

I'm not sure I should even POST here... ya'll might start throwing snowballs in our direction! :P

Rain is all we get from this storm. The Ochlockonee River has been near flood stage all week. The ground is pretty saturated, so new rainfall won't soak in.

I'm also wondering about the snow load on a rubber roof. These pix show ALOT of snow on camper roofs and I know snow CAN be pretty heavy.

Ya'll stay warm now... ya hear?

Talking about snow ball fights I see there is a huge snow ball fight going on in the Dupont Circle area of Washington DC. And I must say I was out shoveling and all trhe neightbors are checxking on one another. That dosen't happen often in this neighborhood. So I guess we all will gain something from this storm, So maybe we will not send all our snow to Papa and Nana or Mike and Ros but you guys can have the most of it.

Got a whooping 2 inches...of rain :P It is supposed to be cold here at night much of this week. As I am currently living in our Sunline, it means I won't have water in the morning

The locals say it has been the coldest month in a decade here

Just a thought.

Isn't it something how there is so much snow out in the eastern States and the Vancouver Olympics are short of snow for next week. Just proves we really do not have any control over what nature will do. I for one think that is a good thing. Have a great day everyone.

Well...we have no snow here thank goodness (sitting quietly in Fla.) but it is colder than usual. We woke up this morning to a balmy 38F, not the best. But hey, our tt finally has no snow on the roof.

We phoned our grandkids this morning, and they are in the middle of a snowstorm (NB, Canada), and they already had a couple of feet on the ground. So glad we're here, not there...

OK, snow total update : 32 - 33 INCHES No school monday or tuesday, and guess what we are already under a "winter storm watch" AGAIN !! Supposed to get hit again starting tuesday evening. Our driveway has been plowed (My son did it)down to the very secondary county road, which leads to the main county road, but the secondary road has NOT been touched except for where my son plowed from our driveway to the main road. SO, it's a path that is just snow plow wide. I-81 in WV is HORRIBLE !!! We were on it today, but, just 10 miles north of the house we enter Maryland and it was clear there, then farther north into PA and it was CLEAR. Good ole' West Virginia.

Our actual drive/parking area is clear enuff for Gary to just barely maneuver the Explorer around & out to the main road, we have dug a snow shovel wide path for the pups to get out and away from the steps a bit. Snow shovel wide path to the garage.

OH YEAH, all this white stuff SUCKS BIG TIME !!!!!!!!!

But Gary did make yummy "snow cream" last night

Barb and I are with you guys in seeing an end to the snow. I shovel 5 hours yesterday and another 6 today. I guess we have been luck in the last few years with the low snow falls. t think when I was a kid in PA I love to see it snow.

Best advice hook the Sunline upto your truck, attach a snow shovel to the front bumper, and head south. When you go far enough South that some some asks what that is thing attched to you front bumper, you will know you can safely up camp with out the threat of snow.

WOW.... You know, Gary already raised the pot and I folded at around 18 inches. Are you after the Granddaddy jack pot of snow?

My goodness, 32". What a mess…..

We are suppose to get a few mini snows yet this week. But I still concede, you win!

32" is awful. We "only" got 21"....Pepper looks like a gerbil in a Habitrail when he goes out. We too are expecting more starting tomorrow afternoon.

I heard the paper said yesterday we've only have 19" so far this season!

Now I see we're up for a new storm coming tomorrow, tomorrow night, and into Wednesday. Weather channel says now we could have 3-5 tomorrow with the heavy stuff coming during the night. 8-12 total.

Our Maryland location (Kent Island across the Chesapeake Bay from Annspolis) got 28 inches of snow with an additional 6-12 inches predicted for Tuesday and Wednesday.

At this rate we will have huge snow drifts until June! We considered trying to get the 1950 out to take it to Stoltzfus today but decided the main roads were still too bad for a safe trip. Keep your fingers crossed that we can get out this Saturday.

WELL, no good news here, MORE white crap on the way. School now closed until thursday, and we are expecting up to 20 - 24 inches of NEW snow, with predicted blizzard conditions.

Today, while outside shoveling the white crap, I noticed that my carport, has a bent corner brace, and that the carport loaded with snow is now leaning against the house, so guess the trucks should NOT be parked under it for now.

Gary wanted me to get some heat turned on in the Sunny, so I flipped the breaker on, and NOTHING. HUM, what the heck is going on. Well, I did some investigating, and noticed the plug at the receptacle on the side of the garage looked a little "ODD". SO, to get to it I had to shovel across the front of the 5er, then down the slide-side, and up a slight embankment. While shoveling, I was check the power cord, and when I FINALLY reached the outlet box, the darn plug was unplugged, I guess the weight of all the snow had managed to pull on the cord enuff to dislodge the plug. Anyway, all fixed now & heat running.

I shoveled off the snow/ice that did not come off yesterday when my son plowed the driveway. Some of it was 3 & 4 inche thick frozen ice/snow pack.

It is now 7:53PM and he is not home from work YET. Really long day for him.

My bus is still buried up to the frame, and even when it gets dug out, not sure where I can put it.

Well, thats about all the news from this snowy place for now.

8:06 pm, Gary just called, on way home, has borrowed some type of heat torch from asphalt plant in hopes of melting some snow off the carport roof. wonder if kerosene heater set in bed of truck would put enuff heat on it to get some snow to start sliding off ?

OH, almost forgot, the 299, the rear roof has finally caved in due to snow load. The front half of the roof is still standing, for now.

For all those snowed in, the government canceled the announcement of the office of Global Warming due to the recent snowfall.

I'm not sure if it was due to embarassment or they were too busy shoveling 30 inches of 'goreflakes' in Washington. (LOL)

Does Gary think turning the heat on will help melt the snow on the roof? I'm not so sure if it'll do much, on short notice.

I think it might be a good idea to try to shovel/brush off the roofs of the fifth wheel and the 17 1/2 SB because I'm sure 50 some inches of snow won't help them, even if only like 30 is on the roof.

Well, the carport has been evacuated, no real way to "melt" the white crap fast enuff. The torch Gary borrowed did the job as long as he was holding it aimed right at the snow. Then he & our neighbor tried tossing a cord across the roof and pulling downward on it, hoping the snow would "slide" off, no such luck. SO, I'm guessing the roof will come down with the next round of snow. Then I will have to file an insurance claim to get it replaced.

My real concern is the 5th wheel, I had the heat on all night, but don't think it helped much, if any at all. And there is not a lot I can do here by myself, as Gary is working. Even "if" I could try to do something on my own, Gary would have a "flaming fit". He wasn't thrilled about me doing all that snow removal yesterday. But, hey hes' gotta work and I'm off, so I do what I can to what needs to be done.

OK, you folks have waaay more snow than we have, but over the years I've gained some experience for dealing with it and have lots of "tools" in my garage. By trial and error I've found the best way to clean off the roof is with one of those short bristled push brooms with a squeegee on the side, typically sold as driveway sealer applicators. I use mine on a telescopic paint roller handle so I can reach just over half way across the roof. This works well for fairly dry snow. For heavy wet stuff nothing beats a hockey stick, a goalie stick might be even better. You have those in WV don't you

. Actually any good piece of lumber would work, but a hockey stick with the blade is just about ideal. I hold the stick handle in both hands and push it into the snow and pull it towards me. It's a wet job and you need a good ladder and watch for snow packing onto the rungs. The blade can be used to loosen snow around vents. Just check that it's a nice smooth stick that won't puncture the roof.

Of course with the amount of snow some of you have you're going to fight to get the ladder all the way around the trailer. I usually only do mine in spring before going to FL and then just pull it onto the paved driveway--can't help you there.
